He was always a starter. The delays were probably us lowballing him on wages. After the Villa bids and BW's £120k leaks, he's probably getting as much if not more.

I don't know if he was always going to be a starter. Not as the CAM anyway. He was being shifted to play on the left when Odegaard arrived. Quite a lot of competition for that left sided role and probably not his preferred position.

Will be interesting to find out what he’s on. Have we overpaid another kid who we then can’t sell if it goes wrong? Hopefully not.

Jesus Christ

They should really implement more year on year rising contracts, maybe in two years he’ll deserve that much but right now should be closer to 40-50k.

I'm not concerned at all about his salaries as long as he gives 100% and is thoroughly professional. It is a big BONUS if he has feelings for this club, but that's from bygone era and I shouldn't expect from anyone anymore.

Yep. Never bothered myself about players' wages as long as they're professional and dedicated.

Bingo. We now see what all this Villa stuff was about. Leverage for a bumper contract and a staring place.

80k a week is a steal (if true)
One of the best players in the PL.

We are remembering he's 20 and so far proven himself over 4 months right? Just because we were so desperate for creativity doesn't make him better than he actually was.

He's a good young talent who shouldn't be anywhere near 80k a week even in these ridiculous days of inflated wages.

I have always thought that wage increases should be based on what you are going to do and expected to do... not what you have done. (that was the same reason I thought Aubas contract made no sense for a 32yr old on the wane)
There are very few better creative players in the PL than ESR, so we have a star on our hands (like Saka)
It is a risk, of course, but if he carries on his trajectory which the club clearly expect him to , 80k is going to look like absolute peanuts.

I don't think clubs have a leverage on wages these days. I'm still baffled as to how Saka re-signed for £33k a week—if that figure is true.

Smith Rowe's agent would see Auba at £350k, Thomas at £250k, and Laca at £180k, and would of course demand some sort of a parity. While ESR isn't a veteran like those folks, still, £80k looks alright.

We're also paying Willian and Kola around £120k. ESR would presume that he's a lot more valuable than those folks.

£100k has become standard wages these days.

Frankly, I'm not concerned. If he ends up flopping, unlikely, well, we'll just have to pull ourselves together and accept it. That's the nature of the beast.

When we're about to splash £50m + £120k a week on Ben White, ESR's deal looks paltry. It's a lot cheaper than having to buy someone like Maddison and pay him big money. I do hope we don't waste money on Maddison now. I have no idea why we're primarily looking at the English market when there's more talent—and clubs in crisis due to the Covid situation—outside England.

Saka is on £33k a week. I don't believe the club have put ESR on nearly three times as much. That report has to be wrong.

You don’t seem to be too bothered about performance either to be fair.

Glad he's signed on.

Good player, versatile across the attacking line and offers creativity but not in a lazy way, he can drive forward with the ball as well.

On the contrary. I think I'm quite fair in that regard.

You on the other hand have a good old moan come rain or shine. I'm sure if you won the lottery you'd complain about having to ring up and claim it.
