Current ppg has us finishing with 63-64 points. The Emery season saw us notch 70 points. Arteta's first half-season got us 8th with 56 points. Last season, we amassed 61 points.

63-64 points *might* be good enough for top-6. Unsure as of now. West Ham finished 6th with 65 points last season.

I'm not worried about form. What worries me is the underlying stats:

7 goals from open play after over a quarter of a season is abysmal. We have to improve significantly in coming weeks.

Since Wenger left we have not bought a single center forward.
We have bought three inside forward and one attacking midfielder. None of whom are starters. One of them is sold.
But we have bought five CBs, five full backs, four DMs and two keepers.

Is it any wonder our attack sucks?

Top-4 is there for the taking this season. But we have to beat the "obvious" sides, and can't afford another dip.

Spurs have issues on and off the pitch. ManU have the star power and they've hired a manager tailor-made for this situation, so they will be better than they were under Ole. Uncertain right now, obviously. If they hit the floor running under Rangnick, it will be tough. They have a better squad.

West Ham won't be able to maintain the level of consistency required for a top-4 finish. Leicester seem to be wayward this season, and mind you, they missed out on UCL football despite being at their near best for two season running under Rodgers.

Now, we have to do our bit. This is the top-4 version of 15/16. Underlying metrics aren't favorable. There's always a possibility of ManU bouncing back under a new manager. Yet, it's in our hands. If we remain consistent, we could pull it off. Question is, can we remain consistent enough for the next 25 games?

Great post Angelito, the stats confirm everything I have been saying about us offensively, we are awful going forward.

But unless we are praising Arteta we are anti Arsenal loooooool. The argument of desperate folk. I am not going to sit here and watch us play poorly and win and wax lyrical about it. I will highlight pur faults because those faults will prevent us from getting back to where we should be.

We keep insisting with the tactic of slinging in crosses left right and centre, why do we persist with it? Who is there to get on the end of the crosses.

We play Odegaard but don't play players that make runs. For an Odegaard you need a Martinelli or a Walcott. Too often we are static up front.

Its one thing to pick a formation but how you implement it is just as important. We are so easy to attack as well, spaces everywhere.

They are not great stats because they are incorrect (or old).

Two things holding us back.

1. Transition play in midfield
We are not able to release the ball quickly when in possession. Partey, El N, Lokonga all like to carry the ball out and lay it off and are slow. We are not able to launch effective counter attacks or even build quickly.

2. Poor link up play in the box
Our forwards have poor link up play and are not able to pick each other out. This is not a personnel issue but a coaching issue.

This goal shows you what we are missing. Look at how fast we move the ball from back to front. Would never happen today.

I think we need to buy a quality midfielder in Jan as it is clear after over an year, Partey cannot hold the midfield.
Meanwhile, we should go back to playing a DM ( try White or Mari) behind two CMs ( say AMN/ Lokonga and Odegaard) behind the front 3. Good thing the AFCONs are at hand so we'll be innovative and forced to make some changes.

We lost that game in midfield. We scored, that should've been enough to win the game but Xhaka and Partey gave the ball away too often which both stemmed the attack and put pressure on the defence.

Unless Sambi is ready to start we need two central midfielders.

Not sure why Sambi was dropped TBH.
Should get a partner for him in Jan and dump Partey.
