Problem is choices are limited. Biggest mistake has been not buying a full time quality CM/ACM. They believed that between Ceb, Willan and Partey the midfield could stand up ans leave the attack to Saka, Auba, Laca ( of course as per last season's form). Nobody could envision that Auba will miss fire so badly, Willian would turn up a complete dud and Laca will be inconsistent as he is. Ceb...same old...mediocre. But this is all in hindsight.
Besides there's of course calamity Luiz and his buddy Xhakha looming their heads every now and then.
That's why we are Up and Down and Up and Down...like the Vengaboys song.

Iirc, we have only beaten West Ham, Chelsea, and Leeds out of the clubs in the top-10 as of now.

Exactly. Our inability to turn around games is a concerning problem that hopefully will be addressed sooner rather than later.

Whilst we're at it, here's another damning fact :hiding: -

Anyone think 4-4-2 could work with this midfield?

Saka—Partey—ESR—Pepe

That formation and team leaves our left side very weak defensively.
Puts a lot of strain on Tierney who also likes to get forward.

07/08 was my favorite season. So beautiful yet so tragic.

Comparing our current escapade to the two seasons preceding Arteta:

18/19

- Europa League Final
- 70 points in the League
- 5th place.

17/18

- League Cup Final
- Europa League SFs
- 63 points in the League
- 6th place.

As it stands, if we win all of our games until the end of the season, we will attain a maximum of 61 points. We do have a chance to win the EL still. If we don't, however, this season is shaping up to be our worst since 75/76.

We can get 71 points
Worse since 94/95

Oops.

Interestingly, 71 points might be enough for top-4 this season.
