Formations, Tactics, Analysis, and Statistics

Listening to Klopp and Pochetino interviews it is clear they adjust their teams for the opposition they are playing. Just how good would Arsenal be if we did the same !! Always been Wenger's biggest weakness, tactical shiteness/inflexibility.

As for tactics, a while ago loads of people were harping on about 4-5-1 being better than 4-4-2 and now the talk is 3-5-2 being the best. There is no best formation !! If you play players out of position they will be shite. If you play a formation that suits the players you have you will inevitably get a very good team performance.

Wenger's arrogance won't allow him to change formation and tactics, the problem is when you have 3 or 4 "sometime-ish" players in the team you will have brilliiant games followed by utter bullcrap. Welcome to Arsenal.

Our formation isn't a problem.

How we set up and the lack of consistency from our "big" players is the problem.

Sounds like a motivation issue.

That consistency is also heavily influenced by fatigue imo. Ozil and Sanchez played 90 minutes midweek against Ludogorets and I'm willing to bet it contributed to us dropping points against Sp*rs in some way.

You only need to look at Chelsea, Liverpool, and Leicester to see the type of effect playing in Europe midweek has on a team's weekend performance
Ramsdale
(Turner/Hein)
White Saliba Gabriel Zinchenko
(Tomiyasu/Niles) (Timber/Holding) (Trusty/Kiwior) (Tierney/Tavares)
Odegaard(c) —- Rice
(Xhaka/Lokonga) —- (Partey/Elneny)
Havertz
(Jorginho/Vieira)
Saka Jesus Martinelli
(Pepe/Nelson) (Nketiah/Balogun) (Trossard/ESR)

Yeah fair play, we looked flat. Thing is if we had rested Ozil and Sanchez that team most likely would not have turned around a 2 goal defecit.

I feel we dont play to our potential. We have to fluff it time to time. How hard was the header for Giroud in the end which he headed straight to LLoris. How can Chmbo play so poor? How can Iwobi slip always while shooting?

Simple things we dont do right which is the cause of our downfall.

Wild guess here....maybe because he is poor? if anything we overachieve. How many times do we control the midfield against good team?

Worth noting how all the teams (English) in the CL dropped points this past weekend.

On paper looks nice but Wenger is to shit, it's not like Conte just says we are playing this formation and it all falls into place, Wenger is far to rudimentary to pull something like that off.

Wenger barely assigns roles to his teams. Look at the current top 3 for managers with great tactical knowledge, they bring the absolute best out of their players

Leno
Niles Sokratis Holding Kolasinac
Xhaka Torreira
Pepe Ceballos Auba
Laca

So how do we fit in Soares?

A big if, but if we get him, I think he goes straight in at right wing and Auba and Laca platoon depending on opposition and fitness.

100% we're not getting Soares or Zaha if we get Pepe.

If everyone is fit and we get Tierney:
Leno
Bellerin Sokratis Holding Tierney
Torreira Guendouzi/Xhaka
Ceballos/Ozil
Pepe Laca Auba

Can’t see us starting Auba, Laca and Pepe. Will need to be Pepe +1
