Problem is we haven forgotten to defend as a group, hence most of our defenders feel isolated , nervous, and make mistakes, like getting into final challenges. In the early Wenger era, defending as a group was our forte. Defenders supported each other , talked to each other, they were more composed under pressure.
Mustaphi, initially, seemed pretty solid, but his injury dented his confidence. Besides, the above shortcomings, doesn't help the individual either.

Emery will put everybody on the selling block, bring in a bunch light weights, and ultimately lose his own shirt.

If he’s being sold then the rumours of the board only willing to sanction loan deals because of a concern on Unais judgment could be true ...

Understand we receive a 25m bid for Mustafi in the summer. Board were happy to accept with Diallo the preferred replacement of Sven.

However Unai requested he stay because of concerns over Kos fitness and inexperience of other defenders.

In the end Unai convinced board to reject offer and focus was switched to buying experience.

Sokratis was signed, upon recommendation of Sven and then Unai was granted his wish of bringing Lichsteiner in - who he identified as the leader Arsenal were missing.

It's his 3rd full season with us and there's just nothing I've seen that makes me think he's ever going to be the type of player we need at the heart of defence.
