Ok some people think if you let a player go and he doesnt become great....then the manager got it right and he was never great. But there is another thinking. What about if you have a player who is slightly more talented than one. But the talented young player isnt the strongest mentally and he is around an incompetent manager/coach and he never push on. while a little bit less talented player has the perfect environment with his coaches/manager ans support he gets and he push on to fulfil every drop of his talent. The reality is being in the right place with the right people places huge part in young players pushing on. I want to use Coquelin and Campbell as examples.
These two players are really surprising us with their ability. never did we think they had this in them. Nothing showed this when they went on loan. Even though we dont know these two personally.....lets go with they are players with good attitude and not big primadonnas who train well. Still they only got a chance because of injuries and both were coming to their last season with us and we pretty much expected them to go out on free. But our coaches and manager watched coquelin last season in training every day until december time and in his mind nothing showed him he was better than Arteta or Flamini. If we didnt have the injuries last season. Coquelin would not have played and gone out on free in the summer. And in a lesser club who knows what would happen and what kind of manager he would have got.
Campbell same story all season he trained with the first team and he wasnt even making the squad. Nothing in Wengers eyes told him he is good enough or better than ox or even can compete with walcott for a place. Until injuries gave him a chance and he looks to cement his place in the team. If Campbell really does a Coquelin and becomes a star player for us. then it tells me we were extremely close to losing out on two gems who cost us pretty much nothing and performing like 20 million pound players. With Coquelin pretty much not costing us nothing and Campbell 1 million......how much does the investment the club has made dictate who gets a chance. It looks much better to have a 16 million Chambers or Ox not making it than 1 million punt doesnt it. So its clear some young players are choosing by the club that they will invest time on. So is it a really fair competition and can a player who wasnt meant to be a star player actually change the managers mind in training?
This isnt ox/campbell or coquelin/flamini thread. But in general are these young players really in fair competition or is it up to the lesser player to outperform the more known player everyday in training and when you get the chance force your way in the team like coquelin/campbell. This is all good......but dont forget they only got a chance because we were desperate and most players dont get the chance due to having so many injuries is not common
