We wouldn't have had that 2003/04 season without him. His presence in central midfield allowed Vieira the freedom to support the front four from behind.

Hugely underrated. We've had nobody who comes anywhere near him since he left. One of the best central midfield players every to play in the PL. He was for us what Fernandinho has been for Man City.

Football is not only about playing. You also have to stop the other team from playing. That's what these players do, and they do it so well that it goes un-noticed. It gets lost amongst the flair that only happens because they allow it.

Top-25 player in modern Prem history. Probs top-20.

I really wanted us to use some PR to shed light on some Arsenal greats. In the Prem alone, Gilberto, Ljungberg, Sagna, Koscielny, Overmars, Bould, Lauren, Wiltord, etc. are so overlooked.

Instead, we used PR to highlight Stan's comprehension of a #6 and to big up Arteta as Pep's teacher.

Simply loving the Gilberto discussion, I've similarly thought his impact and contribution seemed not to be duly appreciated by the masses and agree with the comments of the previous posts.

That he had tons of technique and ability on the ball but would tend to only use it when necessary and rather play the simple, effective and efficient ball than look skillful just for the sake of looking skillful and I think that's probably why a lot of what he was about does go a little under appreciated.

Yup, spot on with this, the work he did was under the radar, little things, little annoying fouls he would commit that would stop the opposition attacks, breaking up play, winning the ball back, no fuss. Excellent player. Gave us extra height and strength in the middle of the pitch, something we have lacked since he left - literally.

He is a top character as well. A gentleman.

It was a real pleasure to have him at Arsenal.

We used to be classy. We've taken a nosedive over the past year or so.
