"Hale End" is going to become the new "British Core 2.0" project Wenger tried isn't it?

As I feared, we might be spending another summer buying defensive players whilst totally ignoring glaring holes in midfield and attack.

- Replacement for Bellerin
- RCB
- Goalie
- Back-up LB

4 players.

Our priority should be a top class CM to play alongside Thomas, a central attacking midfielder, and a top quality forward/striker.

If Xhaka leaves, we'd be down to Thomas and Elneny in midfield positions. We'd need an additional back-up midfielder too. Guendouzi will fulfil that need if Arteta can swallow his ego. Unlikely.

Tbh we don’t really need to buy a RB, Cedric is good enough to start with Niles as cover if he’s staying or Chambers as cover for the time being

As for centre back after Luiz is gone we have Chambers, Holding, Mari, Gabriel, Saliba, Mavropanos thats 5 or 6 CBS depending on chambers being right back cover or not.

No point in buying a centre back let’s just work with the ones we’ve got and develop Saliba/Mavropanos.

Left back is the only position we’ll need cover for once Kola is gone but again that can be solved with a cheap stop gap like Bertrand.

We need to use our limited resources more wisely insets of spending 30M+ on another centre back we don’t really need, use that money on other positions.

^ Even if Bellerin left, I'd be fine with Cedric at RB with Chambers as his back-up. Even for the LB position, Saka is capable enough when Tierney's injured, and we do have López. It's not like we'd be in Europe (UCL/EL at least).

Same for the CB positions. Saliba, Gabriel, Mavropanos, Holding, and Mari are good enough. Chambers is practically a RCB. You don't need more than six CBs heading into a season when your midfield is dire.

Spend all the money we have in acquiring a CM and a CAM. A top class forward is another position we should be looking into.

Enough of these nonsensical defensive players or "experienced" veterans. We're not getting top-4 regardless. Might as well focus on top-6, playing attacking football, and winning the FA Cup.

Need some passion and intensity back. Many of the current bunch are laid back mercenaries. No more loanees please; maybe for stop gap roles, never as mainstays.

Arsenal sack Steve Bould after more than 30 years involved at club as player + coach. Ex-#AFC defender most recently U23s boss, having worked with 1st team until swapping roles with Freddie Ljungberg in 2019. Exclusive by @amylawrence71 for @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/MZ1ATBEcX5

Had high hopes when he joined as staff but has been abysmal

See ya

Luiz, Ode, Ceb and Matt Ryan have left officially. Hope Xhakha leaves too.
Now that the decks are cleared, new Cannons can move in. Let the rebuilding begin in earnest.

What stage of rebuilding were we at when this lot signed? Feels like we do one every year.

Well, the two on loan players were bought in as stop gap and probably Luiz too, along w/Ryan. Definitely they thought of trying them out before making long term commitments.
This is a rebuilding phase after Wenger and there will be trials, hits and misses. Now that we know the cogs that didn't fit, are removed quickly, it is all the better. Would have been worse if there was more indecision about them and they did hang around longer . Now the management has to look actively to fill the vacancies.

Game vs Hibernian on. Good to see some new faces and some forgotten ones. Lets see how we fare. Excited about the new season as always.

Does anyone else think it's highly questionable planning to play in Florida just 3 days before our season-opener against Chelsea?

By the time the players are fully adjusted to the jet lag, they'll be on back on their to England again and will have to adjust for a second time within an unrealistic time frame.
