Why not try Azeez in these cup games? He seems to be an exciting young prospect.

Exactly. Give someone else a chance in that position. The Elneny/Xhaka/Ceballos combos have reached their capacity. We can only afford to play one of them in midfield without severely hampering our attack.

If Arteta wants to play a Pep style flat three in midfield he’s going to need better ball players than Elneny. A standard DM won’t work. He needs an advanced 8 type. So Partey and ESR fit the bill. Odegard should help. He should also try to get more out of Ceballos.

Why would we keep Elneny ? He is better than Xhaka but too one dimensional and certainly NOT Arsenal quality in the first bloody place.

The most dead Arsenal CM trio since Ian Selley, David Hillier and John Jensen

Really ? That surprises me, all 3 had a good number of games in the 1993/94 season.

Here's the place to research. I was surprised too.

Its a good job Arteta doesn't want to play a flat 3 then doesn't it.

How can you not tell from his eagerness to have CAM's in an actual no10 role that he's not aiming for a flat 4-3-3?

Maybe he wanted to once upon a time, but that was a long time ago, he's tried 4-3-3 only once since he's been here.

Elneny post covid has been complete aids tbh, went from our most stable and important midfielder to worse than xhaka.

Maybe it was just a flash in the pan run of form but I hope the same doesn't happen to Gabriel post corona, we really don't know the long term effects on stamina etc.

Elneny was good against Dundalk. Scored that cracker and was good against Chelsea

Good goal but wouldn't expect anyone to be awful vs Dundalk tbh. Chelsea game is a fair point though, guess he's just been shit lately.

Elneny is a fine bit part player. Pair him next to Partey and he'll easily cover the ground if Partey wants to get forward more.

Xhaka can do that too if next to Partey but he's one of the slowest and weakest when defending. This purple patch and extra effort he's making because of that red card won't last long. I also can't stand the way he doesn't make himself available to his team mates for a pass and just points for the ball to be passed backwards if he's not passing it backwards himself.

Ceballos has been so disappointing and I always hoped he'd have the effect that Partey has on our midfield. An ability to carry the ball forward with his dribbling and first touch whilst spraying the ball into wide areas and punching it forward. This better be the last of his loan spell. We'd have been better off playing AMN as a CM or blooding Azeez.

CM role is the biggest problem area and until we sort it out we're going to struggle because it also has a major impact on our attack.
