I don't think it implies that at all. If he asked for the number what are they supposed to tell him "no, we're buying someone better than you".

Fact is he was putting in great performances and is willing to do the role, he and Ramsey were bolstering this team all the way to the Semi finals.

Was one of our better players, more that happy to give him the chance till January to see if he can own 1st choice.

Admitted I'd of liked one more CDM but its more Xhaka and the money we spent on him that's the issue, they don't want to sideline him because of what they spent, Elneny getting promoted is teh reverse, he's earned his up.

The most underrated player in the squad last season, I reckon if we had him and Mkhitaryan fit against athletico over the two legs it may have been a different story but anyway I look forward to seeing him play this season.
