If Raul and co. had been in charge in the summer of 2017, we'd surely have been pragmatic, taken the cash for Alexis and then reinvested immediately.

In hindsight that was the right decision but when i look back on it, most of the people here (myself included) wanted us to force him to stay until the end of the contract and leave on a free instead of once again selling our best player to a rival. In fact, i think Gazidis and company were praised for being "strong" on the Alexis situation when we refused to sell him in the summer.

Tbf that was against a backdrop of the club potentially taking that money and not properly reinvesting. We'd all seen that on so many occasions.

If that situation played out again, I would be hella comfortable after this last summer.

Him, Elneny and Mustafi are by far the worst senior players in our squad

So do you want a name change now or what? ;)

Elneny is good. He's just been underutilized by Unai.

Not an underperformer. Just a basic player.

He is too basic for the level of quality that we are trying to achieve.

He's a good squad player to have around. Can't have world class players as backups in every position.

from todays Guardian...https://www.theguardian.com/football/bl ... iver_email

"Mkhitaryan, who continues to be a frustrating presence. His through-pass for Aubameyang was superb in both conception and execution but again and again he gave the ball away cheaply – 12 of his 45 passes failed to find their target. And that is without mentioning his bizarrely clumsy finish as the ball fell to him following Nacho Monreal’s 23rd-minute run. That the same player can be responsible for both a touch as deft as his chip to Aubameyang and such a clunking finish defies belief."

Very frustrating player. While most other players have a number of average moves mixed with some very bad and good ones, he will be horrible most of the time but now and then do pull off something extraordinary which can completely turn the game around. He always looks very dangerous but it only pans out 20% of the time and the other 80% he will overhit or completely miss a pass or fail a dribble.

The most annoying thing is he clearly isn't shit; he still produces moments of quality regularly (e.g. that beautiful lofted ball to Aubameyang vs. Newcastle) and has had some great games for us, but in amongst that he can be so, so poor. All players will have off games, but he has them far too regularly.

I'm staying positive. If he stays he'll come good

He isn't as bad as Kos was his first few years and he eventually became somewhat adequate.

he's off in 2021 and at 30+ he doesn't have the room to improve to the level we need.

He's the level of player who against the weaker sides will get away with 80% rubbish - 20% brilliance but against the top sides his inability to maintain possession will kill us .... squad player who somehow has achieved superstar salary .... he is what he is at his age that won't change.
