Part of that is communication. If we had a Tony Adams type behind him screaming instructions it might have been different.

I guess that is that is the point of Luiz and Willian but neither are big talkers on the pitch.

Luiz is a talker. This whole nonsense of playing around the back like it's a rule has been idiotic since Emery's days.

A few years back, Kosc and Per would be at the half-way line passing around. We played from the back then too. Not just against the "lesser" sides, but against top Prem opponents as well.

We were criticized when we did that. Today, under an improved defense, apparently, we are busy laying the blame on players for this clownery.

We're stupidly making life difficult for ourselves for reasons we're well aware of.

Basic: when under pressure kick it away or throw away.

Yep.

Arteta made it clear in his press conf after the game the other night that his aim is to retain possession by playing the ball out where possible - BUT - they are not forced to do it and should play a pass that suits the situation.

It's fairly simple really.

Exactly right.
That is what he said and Leno simply doesn't have the ability to make the right decisions at the right time. We've seen it time and time again this season.

Yeah, fairly simple that Ceballos and Xhaka should learn how to control a f***ing football.

Amount of times Leno get played into shit and deals with it...

Seen it plenty of times this season.

Both passes were and have been made millions of times by every keeper in the league. Our players can't control a ball though. Must be lenos fault.

as Arteta said - it comes down to decision making.
The passes Leno played in both his recent two errors that cost us goals were ill-advised. The wrong decision both times.
If Ceballos had of held the ball under pressure, it was still a mistake. As the greatest goalkeeper we have ever had said, no goalkeeper should be playing a ball into a dangerous area whilst at the same time leaving his goal unguarded.
It's just dumb.

Bad decisions from Leno all season have cost us.
He's not solely to blame, but he takes his share of it.
Not good enough and I am sure with the spotlight now on him, teams will be exploiting his clear weakness.

Yep.

It doesn't matter that Ceballos and Xhaka may have subsequently made a mistake - those passes from Leno should not have been made.

Neither player were under pressure. Their first touch put them in pressure.

So I say again, they should learn to control the ball

But it's lenos fault they can't apparently.

its there for all to see. Your beloved Martinez made the same pass last night multiple times to team mates who were under the kind of pressure Xhaka and Ceballos were. Did they concede? No cos the villa midfielder either passed first time or turned the right f***ing way but emi is shit cos he made those passes?

At fault for the goal as well but that's another debate.

Can't have it both ways son

Looked shaky on set pieces. Punched one to to edge of the box with no one close to him and then dived the wrong way for the free-kick. Post and Gabi saved him. No idea what he was doing on the Kane header - looked like he was a pig squirming in the mud trying to reach the ball.

Much much better from him kicking wise.

The problem with that free kick was the wall was too small (which is Leno job) his initial movement was behind the wall (the walls job is to protect that side of goal and you need to trust that) so he effectively put himself out of position with his initial poor movement.
The goal ruled out was even worse.
But what I hated most was with 11 v 10 he then starts hitting every thing long.
But hey there ain't a decent keeper playing the game.they are all stoppers.
