David Ospina leaves for Napoli

Postby greengoonerie » Mon Feb 02, 2015 3:49 pm

Just thought it had a nice ring to it..!!

Anyway Elvis aside, it's good to see that Ospina continues to deliver excellence between the sticks.

i wonder how great an influence his performances are having on the nervous ninnies who are in front of him -it's hardly co-incidental that we've gone 4 games without conceding a goal at all, let alone a goal from a set piece.

Confidence, not arrogance
Talking, not shouting
Organization, not chaos.

The results follow.

Personally, I think our clean sheets have more to do with the kos merts axis coming back to its best.

Not a coincidence that people have suddenly forgotten how much they hate him.

Either way, it always helps having a good keeper behind the back 4 and he's starting to show glimpses that he can do it.

Bit unsure of his aeriel technique in traffic though, has anyone else noticed that he catches the ball really low at chest level instead of above his head on ie corners?

Probably safer in terms of the actual catch but surely more risky in terms of someone getting in above him before the ball drops?

Either way, he hasn't been caught out yet with it so that's something......

Viva Brad Davis chant/song was great when we used to sing it (guessing it started in about 1998). Never heard anyone else use ot (probably do though). Be good to hear it make a come back. Always got played when he scored/converted.

Looked solid against Aston villa although he did not have much to do he pulled off a couple of good saves especially towards the fag end of the game. Hope he keeps his place till the end of the season.

I love the Oooooooooospina! thing the crowd does when he takes a goalkick. :p

Good performances from him. Silently doing what is required of him. His performances tend to go under the radar. But that's a good thing for a goalkeeper sometimes.

Although I agree that the recent rise in clean sheets is mostly due to our new defence vigour instead of Ospina's goalkeeping.

He's done well but it's true he hasn't been severely tested. He's made a couple of very good saves, especially against Villa and City, but he's yet to be proved in a higher level. But so far so good. He's a good presence at the back and he's given us stability.

Much prefer Ospina, Scez acts too immature and clownish at times, we need someone assured in goal, Ospina may not be WC but he's giving us that stability and the defense is responding.

Think its the character he offers more than anything compared to Scez that I like, did some good saves as well against Villa.

As far as I'm concerned Scezs time is up.
