Ozil is a hero because he helped us win trophies after going 11/12 years without winning any

Ozil is a Legend because he took a pay cut to come to Arsenal when he could've gone elsewhere and he is still here today. He made Arsenal fans around the world rejoice and be happy to be Gooners when he signed for us, Arsenal fans had to pinch ourselves when the signing was announced.

So yes, Hero, Icon, Legend.

We had gone 9 years without a trophy
We have not gone 12 years without a trophy since 1970
There has never been a day where I have not been happy to be a gunner

22 October 1949.

Well I wouldn't say not happy but you know when you get that sense of dread and you shiver and you can't quite place why.

All arsenal fans know why now

Led the team from top four to top six ... yup that's legendary alright

Was a superstar now an overpaid discard ... but you keep blowing him if that makes you happy ...

Hope he proves me wrong today but he hasn't for eighteen months and counting so i'm not hopeful ...

Ozil didn't lead anyone to anything, he is not a leader.

You are a different breed. Cos when I paid £1300 for a season ticket to watch pure shit at the Emirates, I was not a happy Gunner. I dare say had you done the same you would not have been a happy Gunner either !

So you become an club icon cause you're already well known at the time you have been bought by a club? Strange standard tbh.

About the untrue "took a pay cut" rumour.

Dynamite wrote:
On 18 August 2010, the footballer signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid, earning for the first time in his career on a grand scale. The Madrilenes guaranteed him, according to football leaks, an annual gross salary of at least € 8,771,930

Özil joined with a signature on 2 September 2013 for a transfer fee of 50 million euros to the London club Arsenal FC, where also the then national team colleagues Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker played. Never before has Arsenal and his coach Arsene Wenger so much money spent for a football player as for Özil.

Again, the contract details have become known through football leaks:

Annual gross base salary of the Gunners: 10.2 million euros
Premium for reaching the Champions League group phase: 1.8 million euros
Hand money on conclusion of the contract (payable on 5 stages at 1.2 million): 6 million euros
Who now thinks that this list was everything, should hold on well, because the German has agreed with Arsenal on a " guaranteed annual minimum ", which according to football leaks amounts to 8,077,000 euros net . How are these possible extra payments processed? With its own marketing company (The "Özil Marketing GmbH"), to the Arsenal London until June 2018 further 1,476,095 euros annually transferred to "officially" promote the superstar.

Contract extension 2018
The contract extension in early 2018 with Arsenal makes Özil rise to the top earner of the Premier League. He earns an incredible 350,000 pounds a week , which equals a year's salary of 18.2 million pounds. This translates to about 20.7 million euros.

The only reason he is still here is cos nobody's stupid enough to buy him.

Agreed, this thread has become a dumping ground for certain peoples retarded extra energy.

This is why I'm just happy to sit back and leave this one to the manager like a normal person.

Its not that difficult, when he's selected if he plays well, great, if he doesn't then he'll deserve some "measured" being the operative word, criticism.

Not this hero worship on one side and this absolute hate on the other.

There's only been two games this season where Ozil has deserved a thumping accolade and that was Leicester and Fulham but he's also far from Xhaka level's of dire performances as well so as per usual ............. the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Right now I'm leaving it to Ozil to show me as with all our players, game by game what he's offered, this prerequisite judgement in the affirmative or opposing is ridiculous.

You don't get a free pass just because your Ozil but not everything bad in the game is his fault just because he's Ozil either .......... step back and see how ridiculous that is.

Performance > Player .......... in every case.

Nobody has ever said Ozil gets a free pass, but give the player the tools he needs to do the job.
