Any coincidence that they both look like stereotypical Nazi soldiers in a WW2 film?

You should never 'quit' on your Country .... Shearer 'quitting' on England before 2002 probably cost us a place in the final .... if Germany don't pick him that's fine but no player should ever abandon their Country ....

He would be 32 and over the hill when Euro 2020 rolled around so this works out best for everyone. We should strongly consider selling to PSG or someone while he still has some market value.

Oh leave off. This is a game of football .. not life or death, nor a war. Never quit on your country, what foolishness is this.

While I'd have loved to see more of Ozil at international level, the Euros of 2020 especially, I think this is a wiser decision - if he does retire from international football.

The whole divide in the German national team is nothing short of sickening and that tool, Lothar Matthaus, has been on his back for a while now.

After that picture with Erdogan, the stage was set for Germany to find a scapegoat. Nah, they won't talk about lack of leaders and a spine that was so prevalent in 2014—Lahm, Mertesacker, Schweinsteiger, Podolski, and Klose, their golden generation who all broke through at the same time.

They won't talk about the shitness of Kroos, Muller, Hummels, Boateng, Werner, etc. because they have their scapegoat. Oh and having a mediocre manager at the helm..

Don't let facts get in the way of fiction in this post-truth age.

Ozil has won the biggest prize there is in football. He has nothing left to accomplish. Every other accomplishment for a footballer pales in comparison to the World Cup, so yeah - just retire and concentrate on Arsenal, you Legend. :D

This is what Gotze must've said to himself after scoring the winning goal.

Hasn't been seen since.

Couldn't give a shit about Germany but rightly or wrongly he is taking the easy route out, the mentality he appears to have doesn't come across as one that we should build a team around or make as a talisman.

Probably has the boots decorated in his living room. That one goal will be remembered in football folklore more than the careers of 80% of footballers. Loooool.

Almost unfair. Even after 50 years, people would be watching those replays and calling Gotze a hero.

Tbh, Gotze and Nasri fall in the same category of players who got greedy for more and moved to clubs they ought not to have moved to. They won but they lost their careers.

the whole racism/erdogan/German national team unbalance thing is an ugly mess that i aint gonna shine any light on, thats for sure.

i couldnt care less. ( though ethnically 1/2 german)

golden age is consistent with having the WC leading gaol scorer- a Pole.

He's not.

He's played in three World Cups. He won one. He was the best midfielder in another one and he and his team flopped in the third one.

There's nothing more to accomplish. As a professional and fan of your national team, you have done it all and you just let go. After all, you've already won the biggest prize in football.

The cycle of players in international football is limited, which is why - Ozil is right to retire, if he does.

Unless you were very young when you first played in a world cup, or you are a generational great like Messi or Ronaldo, I don't think any player should play in more than three World Cups. The cycle ends there.

When was he the best midfielder in a world cup? 2010, Better than sneider, iniesta, xavi? He was very good but it probably wast hard to destroy that shit show of an England team

If that is his mentality then that is a concern because quite frankly he will not give a really shit if we fail, does that explain why he has random games off or gets accused of going missing when the going gets tough?

Yes i understand what you are saying and after winning the world cup you could probably live with out winning another trophy but did you see ramos when spain went out, he was crying.

He is only 29, he is easily good enough for the next world cup, Germany are in a state they could do with him, it would show great courage to f**k the haters and help Germany get back to where they belong
