Oh good the Ozil thread is back trending again on GW.

The joy.

If Aliens ever came to visit earth and saw this thread they'd declare war on us and blow us up immediately.

King of Highbury XIV wrote:Yes, that Germany team was stacked. It had Schweinni, Mario Gomez, Khedira, Mertesacker, Lahm, Podolski and Neuer in the prime of their careers. It had Hummels, Boateng, Kroos, Reus, Ozil and Mueller all entering their primes. Plus players like Schurrle, Gundogan, and Klose who was still an elite goal scorer at international level as was podolski. By prime, I'm referring to age 26-32 and entering prime 24-25.

Now, moving on to Ozil...

In that time frame, strictly league play no cups of any sort (domestic or foreign) and these are players off the top of my head

Mueller - 193 apps / 71 goals / 75 assists = 146 pts in 193 games = .76
Fabregas - 182 apps / 49 goals / 84 assists = 133 pts in 182 games = .73
Ozil - 184 apps / 37 goals / 86 assists = 123 pts in 184 games = .67
Hazard - 220 apps / 69 goals / 72 assists = 141 pts in 220 games = .64
De Bruyne - 181 apps / 39 goals / 71 assists = 110 pts in 181 games = .61
Eriksen - 176 apps / 42 goals / 61 assists = 103 pts in 176 games = .59
Lampard - 177 apps / 70 goals / 31 assists = 101 pts in 177 games = .57
Hamsik - 212 apps / 57 goals / 57 assists = 114 pts in 212 games = .54
Payet - 211 apps / 48 goals / 65 assists = 113 pts in 211 games = .54

In that time frame, Ozil had 11 more league assists than Mueller and 34 less goals in 9 less apps. Also, I've already posted the amount of times Ozil has been assist king... TWICE!!!! (09/10 Buli, 2011/12 La Liga)

OK I am going to have to take back my talk, Germany won the WC in 2014 not 2010, so I will have to concede they were stacked when they won the cup. HOWEVER, in the previous World Cup where they finished 3rd there were at least 7 players that were between 20 and 24 with 10 or less caps.

2008 - 2014
Ozil - 188 appearances, 13,922 mins / 95 assists. An assist every 0.50 games. 146 mins per assist.
Muller - 165 appearances, 12,429 mins / 61 assists. An assist every 0.36 games. 203 mins per assist.
Fabregas - 170 appearances, 12,722 mins / 75 assists. An assist every 0.44 games. 169 mins per assist.

I could go through every one of the names you listed and more, none of them came close to the number of assists that Ozil did, its why he led assists charts in Germany, Spain and England and no amount of fudging the numbers or moving goalposts to suit your agenda will change anything. You combined goals scored with assists to try to manipulate the stats, we Are clearly talking about assists, nobody ever said Ozil led goal scoring charts. Nobody created more goals in those respective leagues than Ozil.

But you know what, I can give you the benefit of the doubt, lets say your numbers are correct, Muller played over half of his games as a forward NOT a midfielder, in fact he has played over half of his games as a centre forward and as a second striker so he shouldn't even be included, he is definitely not a CAM.

So I can give you Fabregas, who many say was one of the best deep lying playmakers in the world in his prime, only 2nd to Pirlo. Thats no slight on Ozil. It makes Ozil, like I said, one of the best CAMs in the world in his prime.

He’s so awesome. The way he just floats around the final third, keeping attacks going, looking for that killer ball and delivering it is just immense. He’s the glue that holds things together upfront. He is ridiculously under appreciated by a lot of our fan base.

Credit where it's due ... this was an excellent performance from Ozil, very telling that the Don came straight out and said "Ozil is playing like we want"

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47781263

If he can maintain this form, and he keep his head down, then I'll happily be the first to admit I was wrong about his top level career being over ... now about letting that Ramsey fellow leave !!!!!!!!!

Well maybe you can relax now and see the method behind the madness?

Emery left him out whether that was through injury or choice or a bit of both.

But now we have a fan base that used to moan about him but now missed him and appreciate him, we have a player who's working harder silencing those who feel he's paid too much, a player who under threat is responding and appreciating the wages he is paid and that he know's he won't get that anywhere else so gave up any resistance and just buckled down.

We have arguably now a better player, yes he's not Torreia like in tackles and I never expected him to be, in fact I've often argued we should just let him get on with it but I think maybe I was wrong.

Because in tough games we actually can't as the underdogs now of the top 6 afford passengers when we're up against it, Ozil has shown he's got with that program and is willing to work even off the ball enough to please most.

He looked knackered when he came off, didn't even think of complaining because he's leaving it all on the pitch and was probably glad to see Mkhi, unlike before where he wouldn't do enough work off the ball and was pissed to be subbed because he had more in the tank because he hadn't given his all both ends of the field.

Walked off to an ovation and the stadium singing his song!!!

To be honest there is nothing wrong with seeing Ozil putting a bit of effort in when we don't have the ball, my problem had always been with people that use that as a rod to hit him with. Yesterday he was indeed fluid, he chased players all game, he kept the ball moving and played some Ozil-like through balls that nobody else on the pitch would see let alone play.

This version of Ozil should be an improvement, I don't see the extra work diminishing his ability to create. Got to be a win/win for us Gooners!!

When he is in form. He's so exciting to watch. He might be overpaid but once Wenger and Gazidis had messed up another, we couldn't afford to lose him.

Ozil, Ramsey and Laca and are critical to our top 4 chances at this stage. Really hope Ozil is looking at the example Ramsey is setting in terms of commitment.

That's one way of looking at it. The other way is that we absolutely sucked without him and that forced Emery's hand into playing him? It's not entirely unquestionable as we've looked impressive again since he's started regularly.

What I will give you is that the performance against Newcastle had Ozil playing as a complete CM rather than a CAM. Not to overrate him, but it seemed like Xavi and Iniesta had combined to become one player. So, if Emery is behind that, I'll all for it. Ozil is hands down our most talented player. That weighted pass to Auba was Godly. I doubt anyone in world football could have controlled the speed, swerve, and direction of the pass as Ozil did. The way he dictated the play, he's our key player, no doubt.

As I stated earlier and as Sims and Brandon have said in Unai's thread, he (Unai) has done everything we've asked for in the past month or so. May that continue.
