If you want your team to be compact and work hard Welbeck is your man, this is why I don't have a problem with Welbeck, I would prefer us to be compact and hard to beat than a pathetic team that looks like conceding a goal when the opponents just look at the bloody goal !!
I'm pleased Welbeck played yesterday. Now to get the job done in the next leg.
He's a forward. His purpose is to score goals or at least help create them. We're playing a back 5 now so the wing backs don't need nearly as much tracking back from the forwards to help protect the wings as much they did when we played a back 4. And at least that lamppost Giroud could poach goals for us and use his mass to hold up the ball.
You end with "now to get the job done in the next leg"... and how are we going to win that match with a defensive forward?
Welbeck - 67 appearances (13 goals)
Giroud - 177 appearances (73 goals)
We shouldn't value a forward who makes you say "Wow! That striker sure helps us not concede goals!". That's the kind of thinking of a supporter of a club looking to avoid relegation.
...but at least he's not Iwobi.
