Yeah that was a brain dead decision.

Especially since both can play in midfield too.

Now that our squad is so Portuguese speaking centric, it's evoking memories of the similar situation we'd developed almost 25 years or so ago in becoming francophile centric with the likes of Viera, Anelka, Kanu, Pires, Henry, Wiltord, Petit, Garde, Lauren etc, and as such it would be reasonable to credit Edu with paying homage to one of Wenger's strong points and aping him in utilising markets he might best be able to exploit.

Admittedly with nothing more tangible than an imagining of the resulting environment, I'm inclined to believe that this may well lend itself to seeing Soares thriving as an attack conscious right back to give us a Ying to Tomiyasu's Yang.

In learning the lessons from being emotionally butt f***ked by the Citizens and Scousers in highlighting the gaping chasm between them and us, that we could now stage re-matches with a formation change to have Tomiyasu, Saliba and Magalhaes in a 3 @ the back set-up with Soares and Tavares as wing-backs against City, or a back 3 of White, Saliba, Magalhaes flanked by Tomiyasu and Tierney against Liverpool, would it really be so unreasonable to expect to see significant sea changes in performances and results (4 draws will do me) to indicate that the team's progression does have more substance to it than scotch mist?

Brooke Norton-Cuffy is a name now being more than just whispered or part of a private discussion between Mertesacker and Arteta, but in Soares once again hitting the heights of his best showings for us last season and being able to sustain it throughout the next, a long overdue rise in levels from Arsenal should also demand that this young man's own progression and development remains on the incline in order to put himself front and center as his natural successor and hopefully spark the need for Ashley Cole to be readily mentioned with a bit of gusto around the Emirates due to his being surpassed.

Soares is fine as a utility player in a team participating in 4 competitions. The problem is that Tomiyasu's injury and Tavares' terribleness forced him to play too many PL games at RB and LB, and his lack of quality was often exposed.

Its because hes on like 75k pw and hes probably willing to lower that a bit to go to a team where he plays football + he still has 2-3 years in him to play at some decent level.(not at Arsenal awful transfer).

You wait, Fulham will offer zero and we will accept it, then we'll find out we are like £10m short on signing a key target like Mudryk or Jesus cover.

Another one of Teta and Edu’s many flops. Where’s Jay when I need him?

Arsenal are yet to decide whether to let Portugal defender Cedric Soares leave in January, with Fulham leading the chase for the 31-year-old who is also attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Villarreal. (Evening Standard)

Soares' weekly wage of around £75,000 is proving a stumbling block in proceedings. (Sun)

This is why it was dumb to give a bench player a starter's salary, which is what £75k would be at 15 other PL clubs.

We are already offering to let him go without a fee; we'll probably have to pay him his remaining wages for him to accept.
