That virtually no one is making favourable comparisons with the likes of Dixon, Lauren or Sagna, is merely recognition that of the 3 options we have available to us this season, preferring him is simply the highest percentile.

Whilst evidence exists that the right centre back is less exposed with him than his fellow Iberian, it's the players forward of him who are the particular beneficiaries of his inclusion.

In acknowledging that the right flank of the team thus functions effectively so as to prove a worthwhile asset, choosing to disrupt that doesn't require commander Spock to deem the action illogical.

That Soares possesses the technical ability to switch flanks but at a cost of some 30% of his capacity to be effective, does not represent a good trade off to me, especially when it has already been established that his level of ability is not that of a Sagna etc.

A diminished left back now paired with an inferior right back, is more likely to result in an adverse outcome than in only having one position of concern needing to be addressed.

Yep. It played out in the worst way.

Sagna was average going forward (his crossing always let him down) in that depart Cedric is clear, defensively though Sagna was a monster only Ivanovoc was on his level in that respect

Another idiotic signing we didn't need. Still 3 years to go on his £80k pw deal.

Worst case scenario is if we fail to move either him or Bellerin on, and end up with 4 RBs in the squad. 5 if we count AMN.

Isn't it ironic that the vast majority of the fan base, along with those involved in the England team selection setup as well as observing fans from other clubs, still consider AMN as a full back even though he chose not to play for us at all than be our starting right back last season and even declined opportunities to secure possible transfers if the intension wasn't to play him in midfield.

Regardless of the fact that his midfield audition at WBA failed to garner sufficient accolades if any as to consider it a resounding success or stir thoughts of any need to ensure we retain his services, he should no longer be referred to as a right back beyond the act of reminiscing.

Clubs strategy is to find full backs comfortable with both feet. This is what sets Tomiasu and Tavares apart. Can go around but also cut in on wrong foot. Helps break the lines and is working for us. Small numbers of players who can do that.
