Wenger back in 2017...

“I believe he is the future. He can play left back, right back, central midfield. Of the three positions, maybe the least natural for him is left back, but he adapts very quickly and is a good defender.

“He has that sense of one against one, he is very strong, he is very quick, he has very quick recovery runs when he comes back. He has some aspects to learn: experience and he has to work on his heading. But overall, what he has done is positive.”

If only we still had him in charge or anyone else other than Arteta really out youngsters would be flourishing right now the likes of Saliba, Mavropanos, Martinelli, Niles and Nelson are behind in terms of development because or manager is afraid of using the young players at his disposal.

People can say what they like about Lampard as an inexperienced manager but look at what he did for Chelsea in terms of developing Tomori, James, Mount, Abraham.

As things stand we are going to waste money on Abraham who isn’t worth that fee, if we were willing to give Martinelli/Balogun a full season of regular minutes up front i guarantee you they’d be better than Abraham

on Granit Xhaka

“Xhaka is an exciting young player, already with good Champions League and Bundesliga experience,” Wenger said when the Swiss international arrived in 2016.

“We have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad.”

After the issues surrounding the club captaincy earlier this season, Wenger reiterated his admiration for the midfielder. “I think Xhaka is an intelligent player,” he said.

Shkodran Mustafi

“I think so, yes,” Wenger said in 2018 when asked if he expected Mustafi to be a success at Arsenal.

“He wasn't close (to leaving). He is a young defender who has had ups and downs. I believe overall he has potential. He is one of the guys who is committed and goes for the challenges.

“He is not one guy who hides from the responsibility, so overall he will be a promising defender for the future. Experience helps.”

They were and would still have been be the first names on his team sheet!

Big season for fofty if we don’t sign a right back I really hope he shows some commitment to make that position his own, he has the ability to reach the levels of Sagna/Cole/Monreal fullbacks who we knew were solid defensively and can always be relied upon

Hope he does exactly that, if he sucks it up he can make himself our starting RB. He's shown some promise as a full back and this is his chance to kick his career on, stop dreaming about a CM role that you don't fit.

Never been a better time, all about his attitude and willingness now.

That said, if we sign a good RB then I'd take a decent offer for him.

I think he should just go.

Why do we want a guy who doesn't want to play RB? we went down this road 3x already.

We have Cedric and Chambers, I'd be happy using them till we get a Bellerin replacement ............ that's if he's even going anywhere.

Possibly the only player we haven't heard a single peep from.

Did he get any minutes in pre-season? He was in the squad, not sure if he played.

Arteta isn’t going to play him, he did the same last season kept him despite an offer and the never payed him.

The lack of common sense is alarming.

Go to a back five and play him and Saka as wing backs if we don't sign a RB.

Tierney-Gabriel-White as the back three.

And just tell him he’s playing a really wide CM position

Just get rid of him.

Clear out all of this not good enough dead wood from the squad.
