It’s not unusual for a player to have a preferred position to the one he plays.

Now of course if they are reluctant it’s a different matter.

Exactly. If he were reluctant to play RB he wouldn't have chosen Roma.

So explain why he chose West Brom over Southampton then for his loan?

Also again, he's gone to Roma because he can't even get a game at AFC, he has no choice.

Its either play RB at Roma or don't play at all.

The problem AMN has is he sees it as he's a CM playing RB, that is my point, rather than accepting which position he is in demand in.

Doesn't bother me anyway, we bought Tomi so he's on his way out at AFC, won't make CM and is now 3rd choice RB because Arteta know's he wants CM so has stopped playing him as a RB which is my whole point.

AMN situation surprises me. His profile fits what Arteta wants from a full back. Can play with either foot, comfortable on the ball, good engine etc. Wonder what’s going on with him. He’s not going to play in a Mourinho midfield that’s for sure.

DiamondGooner wrote:^ yeah but its not very convincing to a manager when the guy you want to play RB keeps saying he prefers midfield even after all this time.

It just makes it sound like he's not committed to the idea.

Roma lost 4-3 by the way.

Pellegrini missed a pen in the 83rd also lol, they should have let Niles take it

The preference and choice argument has been explained and I'm not going over it again. You have a quote from AMN clearing that up. You've seen that he's moved to Roma to play RB, you've seen he was voted Man of the Match from his last CM start and you also know we have a manager that has an issue with squad rotation with most second stringers. You've also just seen a woeful performance from us where AMN could have slotted in at either RB, LB or CM and given a better performance.

You're assuming to know the problem but you don't. None of us know. Any issue or misunderstanding between AMN and Arteta should have been cleared up at the start of the season after they spoke and Arteta ruled out selling him and a public statement was made by AMN about playing anywhere for Arsenal. Even if you can’t get past it, that whole RB and CM should have been cleared up between the two.

Career hitting the shtter.

Serves him right, never read the room.

He had his chance and he started moaning about wanting to be a CM, now nobody even wants him as a RB, I said this would happen, onto a championship league club you.

Well it's simply that he is garbage and overrated because he can play multiple positions whilst doing none of them very well.

Few good games in the FA Cup at wing back, we should've capitalised and took the 20m. A huge waste not to do so.

Big leap to say that he doesn't have options because Roma don't want him. Everton wanted him in the summer and we should have loaned him then. At least there'd be a possibility of a fee from a PL club, considering he's got a year left on his deal.

As it stands, he's barely played competitive football in the past 12 months. His market value is in single digits.

Premier League clubs are set to be on alert with versatile Arsenal and England international Ainsley Maitland-Niles, 24, not expected to be retained by loan club Roma beyond the summer. (Mirror)

He's not a midfielder so what difference would it make.

He’s useless and barely even plays at Roma.

Tavares could’ve also played LB instead of Xhaka. Saka could’ve played there. That was just a mistake from Mikel.

In midfield AMN is no better than Lokonga.

Disagree but he didn’t want to stay anyway so doubt he would’ve been giving anywhere near his best having not played all season.

Well it was stupid to let him go especially in Jan when we really had no midfield, yes. I think they came to an agreement though after already holding him back for almost 2 years and that’s why he went so fast.
