Has joined Reading on loan until the end of the season.

Looks like he'll be Mannone's replacement.

Arsenal will recall 26-year-old Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from his loan spell at Reading to become the club's number two as they can't afford to buy a replacement for the retiring Petr Cech. (Sun)

Having him as a backup keeper is good on paper, young, HG, etc, never really played that bad for us.

In reality we could probably do with a keeper like Ospina that could push Leno rather than resign to permanent reserve football and the odd League cup game.

A couple of posts from Reading forum royals.org -

Great save from Emi just before half time. Would have been 1-1 with any of our other keepers in.

Think it’s widely recognised he’s a significant upgrade for us.

Right at the end as well. He's class. A few dodgy kicks but equally 1 brilliant one to McCleary which could easily have been a goal.

A huge roar when Barrow scored but we were desperately poor in that second half. Martinez saved us and with better finishing Ipswich should have won that.

Watched the last 30 - was horrible. Didn’t play too well but did seem to push forward more than last week

Martinez def saved us. Great keeper.

Fantastic keeper, wish we could afford him at the end of the season.

Just hoping the extra class of Martinez, the CBs and Nelson up front will drag us through

Emiliano Martinez is expected to take the role of back-up goalkeeper to Bernd Leno & has indicated he will expect to feature in cup games & be given a serious opportunity to challenge Leno to be first-choice. [@jamesbenge] #afc

Let's hope Martinez has grown into a solid goalkeeper over the last five years or so. If Leno gets sidelined for an extended period of time, Martinez has to be able to step up.

I can tell you've studdied this whole reserve goalkeeper thing extensively

You have a deep understanding of the role

He's really impressed me in pre-season. I have faith that he will be a more than able deputy to Leno this season when called upon.
