like the guy but he needs to keep adding goals

I genuinely think he just can't put his laces through the ball. Every shot he takes is with the instep. He needs to work with a shooting coach who knows how to pelt it.

I also think it's mental with him. He always mention his shooting needs improving, when he gets a chance I bet he actually thinks he's going to choke so he does.

He just needs to relax a bit in front of goal and the strikes will come.

Noticed the same, on first viewing today thought he blasted with laces but on the replay you could see even this goal was a sidefoot.

No good keep mentioning it and not working on it, shows us what u got alex.

A professional footballer who can't lace the ball?

It's not even a skill.

I heard something weird about Sterling not being able to get much power behind his strikes due to lumbar problems

Iwobi seems to have the same issue

One of the first things I noticed about him. Almost everything is a side footed shot and he tries to guide it in.

You cant get much power if you side foot it all the time.

Are you saying he can only side foot it because of medical issues?

Yup, I concur with these comments, he cannot kick the ball with his instep, its always a sidefoot. Chris Smalling is exactly the same, never seem him kick the ball with his instep - I have seen Sterling use his instep and the outside of his boot though.

I think it is a technique issue, sidefooting the ball is a safe way of kicking it, you get a bit of curl but its manageable, if you want to hit the target thats what you do. I think thats why Iwobi kicks like that. You will never see him or Smalling strike the ball with "check" - some people call it fading the ball - when you strike the ball slightly outside of the instep - toe down towards the ground.

People must be really bored during internationals to talk about how a player kicks a ball

I think it's more to do with how he cannot kick it.
