But our formation itself is unbalanced as it's overly defensive and doesn't create a lot of chances. We play 2 CMs that are defensively oriented and focused on cycling the ball around and maintaining possession. Every attack comes from Saka or ESR on the wings, sometimes with fullbacks overlapping to add depth up front.

There's no room for a CM to join the attack, they are at the halfway line protecting the CBs. We no longer have the kind of situations where a player like Ramsey could pop up in the 18-yd box to grab a loose ball. Now the rule is to pass it back to Partey so he can push it out wide again.

I can't understand why we pushed to bring him in. He's far too reserved with his style of play and needs to be more active. Arteta Will need to sit him down for a few more games and have a word with him. If you look at the two goals we scored, it's Saka, ESR and Tavaras combining for the first. Second goal is White pushing forward, playing it to Tomiyasu who then plays it into Martinelli. Central midfield need improving on attack.

I was pleased to get him, he is Ozil with work rate. What Ozil and Odegaard need are intelligent runners, Odegaard can then pick out a pass, but our runners are pants. Also, dicking around with the ball and taking too long to get it forward restricts the space, so you find Odegaard just recycling the ball. Its when we move the ball quickly you see Odegaard's quality.

Like I keep saying, the system we play doesn't suit most of our players, thats why our chance creation is so poor.

Its Arteta's job to see this, he is freekin blind, stupid or both.

He's been miscontrolling the ball, getting caught in possession, over and under hitting passes in recent games. That sort of thing I can't blame on players around him.

That tackle is unforgivable.
Hard to come back from that.

This is why attacking players shouldn't defend

I'm not sure how hes worth 35M or so ,but lets put in another way everyone makes mistakes and he made one. We we're by far the weaker team on the night and thats why we lost.

Atkinson still believes that's not a penalty.

He was 2 feet away from the foul.

A bit too far to judge accurately.

What was he thinking when making that tackle?!

Fred was clean through, had to be done.

The bigger question is how Utd opened up our defenae that many times.

And why it is laughable that people want to play him next to Partey in a double pivot!

No need to go over the top, its an attacker trying to defend, poor tackle it happens every game, perhaps not in your own penalty box.

Decent player playing in a team where the manager is incapable of setting up an attacking system/formation that works.

As I said before, between him and Partey we have wasted 75m. Add in Pepe and that’s 150m blown on shit.

A player like Ode needs to be in a midfield with other play making CM's / CAM's.

Intelligent players who can link up together.

He'd of been fine under Wenger, but not now in this team.

Hmm.. we seem to eye getting a lot of this 'player x needs another player y' discussion going on.
All players need others around them, but ultimately it is up to them to bring something to the team.
Odegaard is simply struggling with the PL - he is facing real pressure on the ball, no time to make decisions after he receives the ball, physical challenges. He's just still not used to it. He may never be. We'll have to wait and see.

Urhhm yeah because its a team game, having players around you on your wave length is obviously beneficial.

Arteta completely fails to see that while he has a no10 in the CAM position, that CAM when he looks up only see's Auba and he's up front alone marked out of the game, its a useless position in our set up, looks good on paper but in real play there's no passes on.

Where as at City, they play 4-3-3 and their midfield 3 has at least two CM's / CAM's who are technically good on the ball so they can play better football.
