He's been our best defender for 4 years.

Only now it's clear as day, back then Koscielny was right there with him.

Nope it was just last season (well the majority of 2016) that he was shocking and looked finished. Now he is playing at his best again and is our best defender this season.

Always been at his best for us playing CB really but still some people don't rate him there. Glad he is performing at LB as well just hope Modou Barrow doesn't turn up again.

Nah, for the past 3 seasons Monreal has been solid and our most improved and consistent player.

Funny cos last season Squawka rated him our 9th best player behind the likes of Xhaka, Iwobi and Oxlade-Chamberlain. This season they rate him 2nd behind Ozil.

The season before? I.e. 15/16 season..he was 4th best behind Ozil, Koscielny and Alexis in that order. So despite not knowing their rating calculation system I feel it's pretty accurate.

The point being that he was poor in 16/17 more than anything else.

On the balance of things he's still been our best defender for the past 4 years.

Don't give a f**k about squakwa.

Def did have a dip a season or few back, been solid for a while now though like a fine wine getting better with age.

Could be next captain

Yeah, but on the aggregate of the last 4 years he's still been our best defender imo.

Up to 3 seasons ago he was always a yard behind the play, he never got tight and was not able to make tackles. Then all of a sudden it clicked, he was tight, quick into tackles dependable and covered the back post like a full back should.

I don't think he had a dip, I think everyone else did and it made him look bad too.

I just got an idea. Monreal can be our DM. Just dont want to see Xhaka again.
Kola is a good LB. Its a waste putting him on bench. Elneny Monreal and Wilshere will control the midfield well in most games.

Why not Kola as our DM? his presence alone would do more than elnono and xkaka

Monreal is a versatile defender who is capable of playing anywhere across the back line. Yes he is not a spring chicken and age is not his best friend but he can always be an option at CB as he gets slower. His experience, game awareness and intelligence is second to none in our team as far as defence is concerned.
