Wenger to have £100m in summer to spend

Postby Trina » Wed Mar 19, 2014 7:30 am

It is understood that around £100 million would be available for squad strengthening, although this figure includes wages as well as transfer fees.

On a signing of Mesut Özil’s magnitude, the wages over the five years of a contract would amount to a similar commitment to the transfer fee.

It all means that Arsenal can afford a world-class striker in the £40 million price range this summer and still make one or two cheaper but substantial additions in other positions.

Vermaelen is leaving
Fabianski is leaving
Sagna is most likely departing
Podolski might go
Giroud may be off to France

Will £100 million be enough to cover those who leave and see us bring in the players we already need in this current squad?

More importantly, will Wenger get the necessary business done?

I fear we'll have holes in our squad yet again next season, the way it's shaping up with our outgoing players, we'll need 6-8 signings in the summer: 3-4 to replace those who go, and 3 players to strengthen the current team. It really would've been prudent of Wenger to make some signings in January, it would've ensured we'd have less work to do in the summer.

I'm worried. :hiding:

The should be enough money to sign Sagna to a new contract, I just hope we won't be cheap on a striker this time and buy a proper DM as well to start next to Ramsey.

We've always had lots of money to spend.

Won't spend it though until deadline day and by then it'll be too late
