I'm not one to buy into this sort of thing but after a couple of stories have broken tonight I'm beginning to think it's all too much of a coincidence.
Over the past few seasons the newspapers have clearly loved it when our backs have been up against the wall and we have seen the manager, the board and the squad take mountains of abuse (although some of it has been warranted). The dissatisfaction amongst Arsenal fans has clearly been exploited by the press over these past few years. Even this season, where by all accounts we have been doing well, there seems to be negative energy emanating from everywhere. Remember when we lost to Manchester City 6-3, yet still we were top and in good form? I remember watching it on BT Sport and when Mertesacker gave Ozil and a bollocking at the end of the game, there was an "ARSENAL IN CRISIS" caption along the bottom. I thought this was odd seeing as we had been in superb form and had gone through a couple of proper crisises in the years that preceded this one.
Today we are seeing, in my opinion, the most blatant case of anti-Arsenal propaganda for some time (and I'm really not someone to buy into this sort of thing). Today we lose 5-1 to Liverpool ahead of a really, really tricky run of fixtures. Everyone expects the wheels to come off and we have Manchester United to play on Wednesday night. Now, within 24 hours of us losing at Anfield, we have had two very unfavourable stories break - the first being that Yaya Sanogo and Per Mertesacker were involved in a training ground bust-up, and the second being that Olivier Giroud has been having an affair. The first story has been reported by The Telegraph, which is pretty reliable, although it strikes me as being quite odd that something that supposedly happened some days ago has only been released after a heavy defeat. Odd, but you can perhaps give them the benefit of the doubt.
The Giroud story, however, is laughable.
Firstly, it's the Sun, so that immediately signals the bullshit alarm. Secondly, it was written by a f***ing Spurs fan (@stephenmoyes) who is just starting out at the paper. I mean, how f***ing obvious can you get? I have never seen such an obvious case of a "journalist" with an agenda who is lying to try and unsettle a player and a team. What makes it even more ridiculous is that it supposedly happened before the Palace game - meaning they have been waiting to publish this shit at the most convenient of times - and he was wishing a United fan good luck on Twitter. Pathetic.
Am I imagining this here, or is something fishy going on?
