If you have so many defensive injuries, and your main CB leaves the field against a top opponent, early in the 2nd half, I'm not surprised that they became less gung-ho.
Injuries and biased officiating against, has taken some toll on this team.
Once, we have more players back , we should be able to play more freely, w/o having to look back.

Fair points.

Arteta has become more defensive. Playing sexy football in 22/23 has scarred him.

Not watched the video but Arteta is definitely being extra defensive, this explains his obsession with buying defenders and having so many DMs

Yes, also I'd have liked to see a more aggressive approach in both the Brighton and Bournemouth games, I think Pep keeps his attackers on in those games and relies on superior ability to get three points in at least one of them

instead we got one point

Carragher said he's like Mourinho. I can see where he's coming from.
Arteta has become more defensive.

22/23 hurt him!!

He looks more like Mourinho, because he's handicapped w/injuries all over. Last 23 minutes we played with a back four w/ 3 ( or maybe 4, since Kiwior has mostly played LB) played out of position and none featured together at all ever ( probably not even in practice ).
It is also not prudent to be gung-ho with under strength teams ( Wenger) and get thrashed 0-5, 0-6.

You can still pose attacking threat without going ‘gung-ho.’ How is subjecting our patchwork defense yesterday to 45 minutes of straight Liverpool attack any better? Bound to crack eventually

I agree.

A standard defensive strategy that still offers attack is the counter-attacking strategy. You deploy that when leading against a team that's coming onto you? Fine, makes A LOT of sense and you'll likely catch them out on more than one occasion. But we never seem to do it.

In normal circumstances, yes, you will play on counter attacks, while playing off the ball. We were dominant in the first half, but Injury to your prime CB, will put a dent into your confidence, and the ability to play smoothly from the back, followed by Timber's exit, the other able defender.
I was a bit irritated too, but on hindsight, it is not unusual to be a bit ultra conservative then.
The equalizer ( 2-2) happened due to lack of experience from the kid and top quality players that Pool possesses.

Tomiyasu, Timber, Gabriel, Calafiori and Tierney all injured right now, some big games coming up soon any more problems and we will end up Zinchenko playing.

Walter’s should have been given a pathway, there was plenty of opportunities to give him game time instead of wasting minutes on the likes of Cedric and Holding.

I fully expected us to get smashed today!

Yes but you have to deal with the cards your dealt and we handled Liverpool, we were in control of most of the game and really only fell apart when we were forced to put Skelly on Salah.

Timber had Salah wrapped up all game, I forgot he was even playing till the goal.

If this was Klopps Liverpool, I'd be thanking the draw, but we played a crap Liverpool, who got lucky we had so many injuries and absences, so why should we not of expected the win?
