^ Was a hypothetical statement. If Ramsey were the best CM in the world, nobody would bat an eye if he earned £300k a week.

The point is that Ozil can't be criticized for having a "shit/poor" season when he scored 2 goals fewer than Ramsey, whilst Ramsey admirers talk about Ramsey "causing havoc" for scoring 2 more goals than Ozil.

I thought the general consensus was our 3 best players this season were Ramsey, Ozil and Monreal - regardless of the order.

Ozil definitely petered out in the second half of the season compared to the first, but he was still a top 3 player.

7 goals and 8 assists.

Overall, 11 goals and 9 assists.

By comparison, Ozil had 8 assists and 5 goals.

Overall, 12 assists and 5 goals.

Ramsey was good. But if Ramsey "caused havoc," then surely nobody can criticize Ozil's performance too because Ozil had an "underwhelming" season accto many.

The double standard irks me. I know the expectation is higher with Ozil but most Arsenal players get a free pass, except Ozil.

https://www.transfermarkt.com/aaron-ram ... eler/50057

According to transfer market market ramsey got 11 goals and 12 assists all comps, if they are wrong fair enough, let's bare in mind though ramsey def played less games and an assist doesn't have the same value as a goal.

Forgetting stats anyway ozil was great be for he signed an extension, after that he was shit, you cant turn up for half a season hear and there on 300k

Transfermarkt aren't reliable when it comes to such stats. They have a very lose understanding of what an assist is.

And you last para is exactly what's wrong. Ozil only had fewer goals than Ramsey, but Ramsey was apparently "wrecking havoc," yet Ozil was so-so before becoming, "shit."

Need to make up your mind on every player. The bar can't be subjective.

On his wages, Ozil warranted his wages for being the best CAM in the world—remember, only Messi has more assists than Ozil since they started playing. Let Ramsey be the best CM in the world. We would all happily pay him £300k a week.

6 goals in less games is quite a difference when talking about midfielders.

We will have to agree to disagree I dont think overall ozil has done enough to merit 300k, he would need to be at 15/16 level to warrant that.

Imo they are both world class players if coached correctlg, hopefully Emery will sort it out

If you look at the seasons which followed, it's obvious that the blame can't solely be put on Ramsey for how it turned out. 2014/15 saw Wenger experiment with the infamous 4141. It was no surprise Ramsey (and the whole team) struggled under that abomination. Also, this was Santi and Coquelin's breakout season and i thunk Ramsey ended up out wide more often than not. In 2015/16, Ramsey's defensive numbers were actually comparable with his best season. What's worth pointing out is that he was no longer next to Arteta, and the change in partner showed. He couldn't rely on his partner to distribute the ball and had to play much deeper that season, hence the lower defensive numbers

EPL midfield players 17/18 ... contribution for the season (if they didn't play then what good were they?)

Ramsey - 7 goals 8 assists - Total 15
Ozil - 4 goals 8 assists - Total 12

Sane - 25
KDB - 24
Mahrez - 22
Eriksen - 20
Dele - 19

That's the level we need ...

We all know Ozil can hit those numbers .... but 15/16 - 25 .... 16/17 - 17 .... 17/18 - 12 .... that's not a great trend ...

On the other hand Ramsey 15/16 - 9 .... 16/17 - 5 .... 17/18 - 15 ... has never hit a combined 20 goals and assists in his career but is improving ...

Building our team with these two in the creative / attacking midfield paring ... well let's see how they did last year ...

Dele / Eriksen - 39
Sane / KDB - 49
Mane / CouOx - 35

Ozil/Ramsey - 27

We would need them to take a massive step forward ... to compete for top four we need an attacking midfield pair who will get a combined 40 goals and assists between them a year ... just not sure we have that in the squad ...

and before you start saying but xxxxx is not the same player ... all the above pairings had two high scoring players in front of them ... just as Ozil and Ramsey have Lacca and Auba .... it's a reasonable if not exact comparison ....

Buy Mahrez out from under Man City ... that would fill the gap and make a huge statement of intent ....

Ramsey plays deeper for the most part, admittedly he needs to improve and so does ozil, he was quite a way off dele, KDB, eriksen, mahrez last season, them guys aren't on anywhere near 300k, he has it in him though

What didn't pan out was himself, Ramsey.

It was Ramsey who chose to drop the high work rate and tackling, it was Ramsey who decided to use his new elevated position to go Hollywood.

The only reason Ramsey played that way is because his only way back into the team when his first stint as our CAM almost cost him his career was to take the spot left by Alex Song.

If Ramsey doesn't want to do the dirty work fine, but he better keep up his attacking end of his game that he showed recently otherwise like some others in our team, we could do better else where.

Hopefully it works out under Emery.

Arsenal have already offered Ramsey a significant pay-rise on his current deal of just over £100,000-a-week but, in the current market, he could realistically expect a contract approaching £200,000-a-week.

£200k a week.

Well, there goes our astronomical £50m budget.

I doubt that budget has to cover all future expenditure. From this year it would represent extra outlay of £5.2M

220-250k would've been fine.

If we had the late 90s Arsenal squad now we wouldn't be able to keep them. How much would Vieira, Henry, Seaman, Pires etc etc be on now
