Yesterday's performance is exactly what he was doing in 2013. A CM with license to move forward but didn't forget that his main role was defensive.

I don't know whether to blame him or Wenger, but had he committed to trying to reproduce this performance consistently instead of trying to be a CAM, he genuinely could have been one of the best midfielders of the last 6 years.

Pity.

Exactly what I was wondering. That was his archetypical game from 13/14 - minus a goal. What the heck happened after that?

And, I don't know why people insist that he's a CAM. He isn't. He never was. It works for Wales because they have like two good players.

Ramsey could have been world class if he had more performances like yesterday since 13/14. What went wrong? :(

I can't believe this is happening tbh.

What a f**k up.

Put all your savings on Leicester winning the League. Quick.

Sad to see him leave after he finally seems to be a more disciplined player under Emery

Another solid game from him. Can't help but think back to Emery's initial press interview where he said he wanted to build tactics around Ramsey and Aubameyang. Such a shame the club brass couldn't work out the contract extension.

He’s giving it everything he has got.

Hope he helps us to the final and/or top four.

I'm starting to dream of him scoring the deciding goal in the EL final. I need to chill

He's definitely leaving the right way, giving it all he's got and staying professional, have to admire that.

He is going for the money but you can't hand a player who's getting older a lottery ticket like "Free agency" and not expect them to cash in.

That was our mistake, noises from Raul sound like it'll be the last.

I can't be the only one who thought he was atrocious in the second half last night? Gave the ball away almost every time he got it

We struggled in the second half but I thought he played a more disciplined role again. He played deep, stayed close to Xhaka instead of just bombing forwards to leave Xhaka exposed.

With that formation (3412) and being part of the 2 man central midfield, you don't really have a lot of options in front of you. Laca and Ozil weren't busy enough and needed to find those pockets of space to provide the link up play.

As soon as they went off, Ramsey sprang to life again and was involved in a lot of the more dangerous attacking moments.

As Zen said in the matchday thread, apart from his assist, Ramsey was poor overall. Was sloppy in possession and lost the ball/gave it away numerous times. What helps us is that we have a lot better attack than we did before when Ramsey's glaring issues would be obvious.

Keeping the ball or running with it has never been Ramsey's strength. What he's done in the last two games is put on a shift and has been playing as a proper B2B midfielder over the Hollywood version that was so prevalent after 13/14. When he plays as a B2B CM, he is damn good. It's a shame that we haven't seen that consistently since 13/14 and now that he is getting back to his groove, he's about to leave.

Bagged a good assist for PEA, and would have a second if PEA didn't miss the open goal.
