We are so AWFUL in creating chances. So we NEED a creative player on the left, either Saka, Pepe, or willian, I dont care. Auba is NOT a creative player and never will be. He is a goalscorer. Play a creative player on the left, and let laca and auba fight it out in the middle.

Last night we had only Saka and Tierney that were to create consistently, bar a few pings from luiz.

We were not creative last year either.
Auba's goals come from his own movement - very intelligent. He opens up opportunities for himself or creates space where we don;t have to be particularly creative to find him. That has always been his major strength.
He's not doing it this year so far. He looks lazy.

Yes, last year we were not creative, this year its even worse and simply not working. We look totally flat now we are not relying on auba to save us. Whether or not the lack of auba's goals is due to laziness, or the inability to find him, or teams know now how to set up for auba, or a combination of all, is not the most relavant, as we cant find neither pepe or lacazette either. Creativity is now our biggest issue and it needs changes NOW. Bar a few pings from Luiz last night, we were so f***ing predictable.

At this point I dont care who starts central for us. Our creativity in centre midfield is dead so all we can do is adjust our wingers to add in creativity.

The thing is, though, other players are picking up the slack with goals. We are on course for a pretty dismal 51 goals this season, but that is only 5 less than last year.

After 6 games last year we had scored 11 goals, 6 of which came from Auba and 5 from other players
This year, it's 8 goals, 1 from Auba and 7 from other players.

So why is it that the other player's goals have actually increased, but Auba has fallen off a cliff?

Maybe Auba will get off his arse and start putting the effort in when more criticism comes, but I fear he has the kind of attitude to just thumb his nose at the fans and club when things are not so positive - as he has done in the past.

I also don't care who plays middle - we just need Auba to start showing he was worth his contract.

Maybe this is just one of Auba's bad spells - he's had a few of them in just the two and half years with us - one of the reasons I never thought he was good enough for a massive new contract. He might score in bunches and pad his numbers out, but he has these runs where he is useless for a few games in a row where he does absolutely nothing for the team.

Tbf to the lad he's created 3 gilt edged chances past 2 league games. We need him on the end of these chances.

Saka missed a sitter. Pepe heads straight at the keeper and last night bellerin shot saved although I wouldn't criticise him for that

He's our best striker. Needs to play as a striker.

3 chances in 6 games - so that's teh measure now, eh? Not goals.
Ok, if you compare Auba to wide players who create chances he is WAY down the pack in the PL.
He's now also WAY down the rankings for goals.

There is no way around the fact that so far this season he has been dismal.

He needs to get his sh*t together and fast.

I asked this question after the city game:

WHO decides where Auba plays?
a. ARteta
b. Auba
c. a negotiation between both a and b.

ATM, Auba looks like he's rambling around disinterested and avoiding any type of leadership.

Teams have figured him out on the lHS - look at city for instance. Liverpool. LAst night.

Arteta needs to give him an instruction - get in the middle.

THe reason we're focusing on Auba is because
a. he scores goals and isn't at the moment
b. he just got a massive pay rise based on scoring goals
c. he is the captain and captains lead by example - he's not leading by example at all

incidentally, Auba missed a free header last night - dont' forget to list him in the list of chances missed yeah?

Play him up top for 5-10 games straight, if he can't do well there drop him.

He looks a fish out of water outwide

You have to be really special to not understand this. Can't entertain it.

You just know it's a bias against Auba when people can see that Nketiah has no business playing wide and Willian shouldn't be playing as the false 9 but expect Auba to deliver consistently when playing on the wing.

But ultimately this comes back to the manager and as said on the Arseblog podcast, it's more of worry if Arteta sees Lacazette's performances as the ideal for that central striker role. That idea extends to the front line attackers in general and also the midfield. Too many square pegs in round holes.

Well, that is special.
No other player is relevant in the conversation.
Auba scored 22 last year playing on the wing.

This year he has 1 in 6 and hasn't scored for nearly 500 minutes.
Stop blaming others.

You have zero arguments because we're comparing the same player in the same position, in the same team, with same players around him - actually slightly better.

Auba's shit start to the season is ALL on him.

Created the best chance yesterday with the cross resulting in the Bellerin volley that forced a good save.

The problem is the roles should have been reversed.

..an did nothing for the rest of the game. (also it was half chance and not the best chance we had all game).
If we're now comparing him with the top creators out there - well, he's sh*t.

He's judged on goals and he's simply not doing it so far this season.

He's getting good at crossing but ultimately that's not what we want from him.

But the best chance has to be that Tierney cross that Laca would have scored from if he had not closed his eyes and just been a bit braver.

As the likes of the great Brian Clough and Bill Shankly once prophessed, football is a very simple game made complicated by coaches and managers thinking they were cleverer than they really are. Or words to that effect.

When the rather organic biochemistry of a relationship between Auba and Lacca was not just showing green shoots of recovery after a forest fire, but threatening to go full on beanstalk mode with a bit of tending to the garden and some baby bio, we decide to get out the axes and band saw to cut the bastard down instead.

Having hope or expectations of impending fruitfulness, resulting from our team being able to sport a front three of Martinelli, Aubameyang and Pepe supported by the likes of Saka and Partey, is dissipating quickly, as recognition of our lack of substance being provoked by our greater lack of insightful direction and appreciation of the weapons within our armoury is growing, hence a similarly to the eyes of one hundred sleeping cats slowly opening to spy a little rookie mouse on his first big adventure to that other side of the skirting board.

Just looking at Auba's time with us so far, it shows that in the PL he was already slowing down in terms of goals prior to the start of this season:

1st half season - goal every 106 minutes in the PL
2018/19 - goal every 124 minutes in the PL
2019/20 - goal every 143 minutes in the PL
2020/21 - so far a goal every 540 minutes (obviously that will improve, but his form doesn't give me confidence he'll manage to reverse the slowing trend)

Could simply be age.

Could be wrong but it seem to lower the more ozil and ramsey has been left out.
