Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Mikel Arteta hopes to convince striker to stay at Arsenal

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51608205

"Before I took over I had my questions about him but he has shown his commitment," said Arteta.

"I wanted him to show if he wanted to do it and do it physically.

"I'm so happy with him. He is scoring important goals and as a captain he is giving a great example to everyone else with the way he is working defensively."

He has been linked with a transfer to Barcelona, who reportedly tried to sign him in January.

"They are completely right to want him because he is a superb player," continued Arteta. "It's right that big teams like him. Hopefully we can convince him this is right place to be.

"I think it's been tough for him because he has big expectations. He wants to play in the biggest competitions and with the best players. We have to help him do that. He needs to feel fulfilled.

"He is our most important player, no doubt the impact he has in this team. We will have to convince him to stay with us."

The boss saying the right things, but who knows what will happen. He's on 19 goals in all comps this season, and 60 goals in 95 games since joining.

I think if he stays until next summer, he can hit close to 100 goals.

I don't think he is going to leave, he loves life in London.

He's off.

He's the wrong side of 30 and has 12 months till he's a free agent, if he can use that expiry date to get a bumper deal then he's going to take the money, this is his retirement contract.

.......... unless we win the Europa, qualify for the CL and offer him some really high wages.

He's at the peak of his career.

We need quality players, not money.

May as well just run his contract down if hes not gonna resign, we will probs only get 40m in the summer for him anyway which will not be anywhere near enough to replace him with.

What salary would we need to offer? 400k per week or higher? Can’t be doing that if Ozil is still on the books.

We're done once he leaves, without his goals we would have lost a lot of games. Won us the game yesterday, without him we'd have lost as Everton better going forward.

I can't see him staying, he'll have some big clubs after him in the summer, he won't sign a new contract and we need the money, so it looks like we'll lose our prize asset, he also probably would prefer to play up top.

We have some talent up front but we can't replace his goals, worrying times.

The million dollar question is whether we let him run his contract down and.lose him for free..

The question is risk/reward if he pole vaults us into the CL and leaves for free it would be worth the money, with Sanchez we got burnt.

Only difference is Sanchez played a lot more, he didn't have a summer break with us, for Pea it's different he shouldn't get any burn out.

Which club though?

- Monaco without Mbappe are shit

- Atletico can't produce top strikers anymore, they've paid £200m for D Costa, Morata and Joao Felix

- Utd haven't had a top goalscorer since RVP flamed out in 2014

Arsenal could be forced to sell Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if they fail to agree to terms over a new contract, with the 30-year-old's present deal expiring in 2021. (Star)

Former Everton boss Sam Allardyce says he attempted to sign Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund before the striker joined the Gunners. (Talksport)
