Auba's problem is clearly loss of form and confidence, but it doesn't help that he won't run into space, won't move away from his defender, won't challenge in the air, frankly he's gone into hiding 23 touches every one a safety first option ... when as a striker you achieve 100% pass success with zero chances created you are simply not trying to make things happen.
Auba - 15 passes - 15 completed - zero KP's and zero chances created
Kane - 12 passes - 5 completed - one KP assist and three chances created
Auba - 2 shots - 1 blocked - 1 miss
Kane 3 shots - 1 goal - 1 blocked - 1 miss
You can argue that Auba isn't seeing much of the ball but yesterday Kane saw a whole lot less and managed to do a lot more .... that's not even counting Kane's superior defensive contribution.
I'm not praising Kane he is what he is, just pointing out that it's as much the effort not just the ability that set them apart yesterday.
This is why we should be playing counter attacking football. That goal Son scored was a similar to finish to Auba's Liverpool goal. A lot of space behind the team to run into. Not a congested box.
Thr manager has to give up trying to play possession football and higher up the pitch. We had Auba, Lacazette and Nketiah on the pitch yesterday and we weren't close to scoring. The build up play is too slow and not once did they face a situation like ours where there defenders were pulled out of possession and in a panic.
The numbers you're seeing from Kane is what we used to see from Auba last season. Shocking performance but Arteta can't continue to play football this way. He can bench Auba but where do you go from there playing this style of football? He's only ever scored 3 goals with his head at Arsenal.
