Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that a desire to follow in the footsteps of his father convinced him to declare for the Gabon national team over France and Spain.
Arsenal striker Aubameyang was born in Laval, France, to a Spanish mother.
However he rejected the lure of both those sides, as well as the Italy Under-19 team, to eventually play for Gabon having already made his debut for the France Under-21 side.
Had he declared for any of those three countries he could have been a regular at international tournaments, whilst Gabon have never featured at a World Cup and have made it out of the group stages at the Africa Cup of Nations only once during Aubameyang’s playing career.
The chance to follow in the footsteps of his father Pierre, currently employed as a scout by AC Milan but a former captain of the national team with 80 caps for The Panthers, convinced Aubameyang that Gabon was the country to play for.
“I was very young when I decided,” he told the Arsenal website. “Players often take their time to consider their options and make the right choice, but for me the choice was clear.
“I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps. He was captain of the national side in the past.

So unless someone is an idiot or Spud or has an anti AFC agenda, shouldn't ever think of jettisoning Auba in his/ her nightmare.

That's what we said when Henry went, when RVP went, when Sanchez went.
Someone else will always step up when the main guy goes, it happens at every club to think just because Auba scores 45% of our goals that no one else will make up the short fall even as a collective is fkin stupid.
I'd love him to stay but you can't keep a guy who has a year left on his contract and is def going regardless, in 12 months time it won't be even up to us so better start to live with it because its happening.

Our total points per season and ranking steadily fell every time we lost a player like Henry, RVP, Sanchez and didn’t replace them. We went from top two, to top four, to top six, to top ten.

Raul: We're offering £100m + Auba for Bale.
Flo: Wait, what?
Raul: That's our final offer.
Flo: Raul, are you sure? Bale's past it?
Raul: We're no longer going to be bullied by big clubs.
Flo: Okay?
Raul: So?
Flo: Look man.. I really think you should avoid Bale at this stage.
Raul: Arsenal won't be bullied anymore.
Flo: Okay. Nvm.
