Exactly. But not only that, it also ignores the ACTUAL top flight records.

For me, football didn't start in 1992. Actual top flight clean sheet record?

Probably Peter Shilton, but it's very hard to find the stats for clean sheets pre-Premier League.

Can't wait till someone buys Sky out and rebrands the Premier League (maybe, I dunno, call it the English First Division) and all these phoney records disappear.

Cech is a Legend and still one of the best in the BPL, you watch under a good manager who knows how to organise a defence like Simone/Allegri he'll be just as good as De Gea/Lloris.

Legend, yes for what he did at Chelsea

One of the best? Nowhere near

Far too many mistakes and shots have gone in which have f all to do with the defence in front of him.

Bit annoying that, but never mind. He did keep 65 clean-sheets just for England though, so goodness knows how many he kept in the old First Division!

Thanks, mate. Epic post :hail:

It just really grinds my gears that the media just ignore pre-1992 English football like it didn't exist. A media rebranding should not extinguish over a hundred years of memories and moments (will they say, oh that's the greatest Emirates FA Cup goal ever ignoring everything before the latest sponsorship deal? No, so they shouldn't do with the First Division either).

So Cech has, at a minimum, 74 more clean sheets to make before he's the undisputed number one. Unless there's another keeper with more clean sheets that I'm not aware about, of course.

Still, I'm happy for him to achieve this landmark.

Well done Starman

It was obvious that Shilton would have a higher number but difficult to demonstrate

Easier to keep clean sheets in the old days when 1-0 scores were the norm and 8 outfield players stood between the ball and the keeper.
