We had a buyer, no doubt Arteta didn’t want to sell and this we insisted on more money, now he’s staying and we’re stuck with him and he might get a new contract.

Shocking to be honest and with this guy in the team the season is a washout.

What we had was a media story - nothing more.

Stop the trolling.

Roma made bids, Xhaka was even reported speaking to players who play in Italy about what the Italy is like to live in etc, also why is Arteta "announcing" Xhaka is staying if it was always the case?

Xhaka is staying - his salary is beyond the reach of European clubs so he will get a 'retirement package' at Arsenal - I don't hate him as much as some, defensive midfield is a thankless position, no glory and condemned for any error, looks a far better player in Internationals it's down to the manager to get the best from him ... donkey or not.

Arsenal would be a step down for Bellingham. He’ll end up at City. Could also be the perfect replacement for Pogba alongside Fernandez. We should focus on developing Azeez.

In all my years this is the first time I’ve heard of a club telling a player he’s free to leave and then offering him a new contract because they can’t get a decent transfer fee for him.

The fact we rely on him as a starting XI fixture is the most damning evidence Arsenal are not a serious contender. If the plan is to extend him until 2025, it HAS to be under the condition that he’ll be moved into a bench role and a real first team CM will be brought in.

Ideally, we can use some of Kroenke’s spare change to sign Bellingham at some point.

Pretty much this.

I would not have been against Xhaka staying provided that the manager knew that his best position for us is on the bench but knowing Arteta, he’ll start Xhaka at every opportunity.

I previously said in another thread that Auba starting at CF will be the number one reason that stops us from doing anything of note this upcoming season. Xhaka staying surpasses that

This guy just isn’t good enough, 5-6 years of him being here is enough conclusive evidence and yet Arteta insists on keeping him and playing him.

He kinda wanted to do the same with Mustafi as well, how can this not be a massive black mark against him.

Well last year I understood playing him due to lack of alternatives but this year we had a chance to sell and we had a chance to replace him easily.

So now, if we do actually go into the season with him in the squad then yes it is a black mark against the manager and transfer team.

The Prem is too fast for him, its that simple. He is not suited to it, he needs to go.

Our best CM last season, by the way. Comfortably better than Partey too.
