I'd say that incident was more down to a lack of concentration rather than laziness. It's unexcusable, but I don't think Xhaka actively spotted the danger and just decided he couldn't be bothered.

Granit clearly spots Cleverly—who couldn't be more in the center of his field of view—then proceeds to stand idle and starts to pick his nose.
I would've given him the benefit of the doubt if there wasn't a lengthy pattern or recurring incidents where he flat-out neglects to carry out the most basic of defensive tasks.
This misconception of him being some sort of a never-say-die type of player has to stop as soon as possible. Xhaka is a player who can be arsed—but only when he feels like being arsed.
He wouldn't last a season under managers like Antonio Conté or George Graham—and it's not because of his lack of mobility.
