I thought he played some nice passes and kept the ball moving well. He isn't a DM and looks better with someone like guendouzi beside him :dontknow:
Raya/Ramsdale
White/Tomiyasu--Saliba/Timber--Gabriel/Kiwior--???/Zinchenko
???/Jorginho
Odegaard/Smith Rowe----Rice/???
Saka/Jesus-------------------Martinelli/Trossard
???/Havertz

He takes too long to pick a pass, meanders on the ball slowing our attack, got robbed of the ball a few times and doesn't make up for it like Guendouzi did on the couple of occasions when he lost the ball.

Guendouzi and Torreia both made some peach quick passes forward and they tackle, and the track back.

Xhaka plays more bungled passes then he does good ones, doesn't track runners well enough and doesn't defend well enough.

............ I rewatched the game yesterday, he hardly did anything.

I just feel he's being scapegoated. Ramsey, for example, did a lot less!

Ramsey was out of position and yet still spearheaded our press quite well.

Xhaka failed at the very things he's supposed to be good at

Xhaka is Cesc circa 2007. A deep lying play maker who will not press or close down. He will go in search of open space to receive the ball and play a killer pass. Our problem is Ozil has the same instincts and Ramsey goes awol meaning our midfield is all over the place.

That's disrespectful to Cesc. If Xhaka had half the touch and technical ability as Cesc we'd be ok.

Similar role, not similar quality.

Yea we know, that's why we criticize him. Not good enough, or at least he hasn't been consistently yet.

+1

Funny thing is Ramsey was one of our better players till he was subbed. He was trying to stem the flow and make sh8t happen while Xhaka was totally irrelevant.

Xhaka is not a player you employ against pacy oppositions. When given time and space he has a sick eye for a pass but sadly in premiership time and space is a luxury not available in plenty. He has to be judiciously used like a flat track bully against lesser opposition which do not press.
