I thought I was going mad, so I looked this video up:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sLTGp4Sk-A

It's titled WC tackles/defending skills/assists. He's deffo a DM if I ever saw one. Dunno what you're on about GBL.

Pretty similar really in terms of tackling

Bar that massive tackle a few years back we saw where William took out two players they’re not really specialists

Xhaka & William tackle a lot and statistically you’d argue they’re good tacklers (Granit put in 6 tackles & got 2 interceptions vs City in the Prem, they’re elite numbers), it doesn’t seem like it when u watch them in person

If people think Xhaka is the problem, then William ain’t the answer

Nah not having that mate. just look at the positioning of WC in those vids, he's deffo playing CDM. Not saying he's the answer for Arsenal either, but he's a DM who can play a bit.

Xhaka? He's just dead from the shoulders up. In fact I'm gonna start calling him Xhombie.

I’m not arguing the positionings of both I think they’re both CDM’s, DLP’s/registas/whatever nonce football term people use for their roles always tend to hang in front of the two centre halves

Problem is in that role you need real hard workers alongside them in midfield, otherwise we see what’s happened this season

Never seen Xhaka sweeping in front of the defence. Not saying he can't, maybe he's been given instruction not to?

His current role is not cdm though. If it is, he's f***ing terrible at it.

he was always the first point of call on the ball at monchengladbach, as soon as possession changed he was just in front of the 2 cb's looking forward

worth noting that theres recent rumours that he was 'astounded' by the lack of individual instructions received to every player and their roles in the side, and also the fact wenger referred to him as a box to box midfielder when he first arrived. it was almost like he never watched him play

i dont think any of our midfielders even have a role, they all look as clueless as each other

It's very possible. Truth is, none of us can say with any certainty how good/bad our players are at the moment.

Still, I like Xhombie.

100m sprint? With those participants, wouldn't it be a 100m marathon? You'd also need 4 hours to watch it too.

Thats because hes not a DM by classification, hes a DLP, deep lying playmaker, almost identical to William Carvalho, who also can't run, but Xhaka is played out of position.

DM or DLP, it doesn't matter. at this level a high soccer IQ is needed, and xhaka is far from that. both positions are in the center of the park, so saying he's being played out of position doesn't hold water.

if he were a winger and was placed in the DM or DLP, then i'd understand the sentiment, but I truly believe he's a two cent head with a million dollar left boot.

hardly any mobility and lacks the awareness to play sound defensively.

Not at all mate, so by your theory Jack Wilshere could play as a ball winning DM and be good enough for a top flight club?

Xhaka is not a ball winner, hes a strong guy who floats long balls, hes not Coquilin, hes being played in central midfield and he doesn't have the legs for it, look at William Carvalho for Portugal when they won the European championships, playing that role floating balls to CR7.

Play any player out of position and they will look shit, hes a '6', just in front of defence.

we can agree to disagree, i'm fine with that. but when you play centrally you are hardly out of position. obviously there is a lack of direction for the meat head, but still with any sort of soccer IQ, a player should be aware enough when problems occur and why.....xhaka does none of that.

he's a block head that can hardly move, but can play a long ball.
cheers!

Tonight's just proving again why he isn't suited to the PL.

Been absolutely superb in a game that is very slow paced. He's been dictating play all night.

I think the whole team benefited from a slower tempo, our midfielders can easily cut it in the pl under a proper manager

Ramsey was not bombing forward that often tonight. Some occasion he even positioned himself behind Xhaka. I think that helps.
