Well in fairness to both Xhaka and Mikel, Richarlison did absolutely nothing bar the goal and 1 shot in the first half. He was anonymous before that late blunder.

Nah, I think the problem is Arteta keeps playing the wrong combination. Elneny is the safest CM we have, by that I mean he is reliable and his consistency is high, you get nothiong flashy, you get the basics only, but you can rely on him. Partey has the most talent but he is still finding his form so he is somewhat inconsistent. Xhaka has more talent than Elneny but is very inconsistent so, to me, that makes Elneny a better option.

If you played Elneny to screen the defence, against teams like Villareal, he would do well. You could give Partey license to play his all round game. When you play Xhaka in the role he is not good enough offensively or defensively so you always need to cover him. He played Ceballos and we saw him get overrun.

You're right, Xhaka-Partey midfield is much stronger than whatever tf we were playing at yesterday.

Regardless of his position we seem to play better when he is on the pitch
