Who are you saying is our best centre back?

Gabriel.

The guy who plays for us in the PL having left the farmers league - as all good young players eventually do.

I think it's time to post the central defenders that made the short list for team of the season last year in Ligie 1:

Yunis Abdelhamid, Marquinhos, Alexander Djiku, Nayef Aguerd, Marcelo, Harold Moukoudi, Presnel Kimpembe, Loic Bade, Axel Disasi, Jose Fonte, Guillermo Maripan, Duje Caleta-Car, Saliba and Sven Botman

How bad must the rest of them be if that is the best 15 central defenders in the league!

An array of superstars there.

Yes - he left the farmers league because it wasn't at the level he needed.
Good players leave the farmers league except those going into semi-retirement at the end of their career.
That is why it is known throughout Europe as the Farmers League
It's full of dross teams where the young players that are any good dream of playing elsewhere.
Those that are not good enough stay.

There are some remarkably good African players playing at the top leagues in the world too that came straight from Africa - doesn't mean the African domestic leagues are any good.

Well no, he left because he was at a small club and had the chance to play for a bigger club.

There’s only one reason good players don’t always stay there, money plain and simple.

The PL has got stacks of it (due to Sky mainly) the French league doesn’t, you can see what happens when clubs do like PSG, players flock there.

Even with our money though we struggle to attract the cream of the crop as they aren’t interested in coming to teams who are 8th and not even in Europe, these players want to win.

It was the same in the 90s with Italy, they had all the money so all the top players went there.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking it’s because of the supposed strength of a league.

There’s only a few clubs who can attract players for other things than money, the historical greats like Real, Barca, Juve etc but they’re successful as well and also had money.

Duh.

Yeah, money - and who do you think the money spent on? The best players, obviously.
So all the best players LEAVE France and the ones that are left are not good enough. Nobody wants to spend the money on them.

Any young player in France is going to be dreaming of being spotted by a good league and LEAVING the French league.

I know
The nominations are also for about the top 50% of players in their positions. You only have to be average to make the list :)

One of them is Jose Fonte... the 37 year old ex Palace, West Ham and Southampton player who got too old for the PL and went to play for Dalian Yifang in China before ending up at Lille.. nominated for team of the season, though. so lets sign him up... what the hell is Arteta waiting for!!!? :rofll:

Dumb and dumber are hilarious. Make up your own minds which is which.

Hopefully Saliba continues playing well and makes them cry even more

Let's hope 'continue to play well' doesn't mean continue to get 2/10 performances.

It’s nothing to do with the strength of the league as you claim, so that’s your point disproved, it’s money.

Doesn’t mean there’s not lots of talent there, after all look at the French team who have stacks of talent, almost if not all come from Ligue.

Players dream of playing for successful clubs, or just a league  that’s why it’s so important to be in the mix and not be 8th and out of Europe a point that clearly you don’t understand.

You should tell your pal Arteta as he’s been putting out 2/10 performances on a regular basis for 2 years now

he was a shite player and turning out to be an even worse manager :rofll:

One day when he’s long gone we can look back and judge him as the flop he really is, most people take inspiration from the greats, not Arteta though, for him it’s Ted Lasso!
