Giving debuts is pointless if you don't give them further game time.
Previously it was debuts that counted exclusively, with game time given to the likes of Saka and Martinelli dismissed because he didn’t give them there debut… even though they both played just a handful of games.
It has NEVER been about debut's alone Jay, it has always been about giving the debut + game time. What's the point in giving a debut and not giving any subsequent game time ? How can that be an argument for the manager supporting the academy ?
Emery came in and gave Saka and Martinelli proper game time, Arteta "eventually" gave ESR some proper game time. Debuting a player and then leaving hem to rot is detrimental to the academy.
Emery gave Saka his debut but only played him about 900 minutes. When Arteta came in, he was playing 90 minutes week in and week out. By comparison, he's played over 17,000 minutes for Arteta.
The same is true for Martinelli who only played six full 90s under Emery before getting the lions share of his minutes and development under Arteta.
