Arsenal, who have been linked with 25-year-old Manchester City and Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus, will prioritise signing a striker in the summer when they will invest heavily in their squad even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. (Telegraph - subscription required)

There was ZERO progression - we finished just as far behind the EPL champions and once again behind Spurs, that's with no European football - the fact Utd were shit, West Ham fell apart with to many games, and Leicester had a weak EPL season, entirely due to them both reaching a European semi-final - is the only reason we weren't eighth again - ZERO improvement just a very weak 4-8th in the EPL.
We blew our best chance for European football in years - progression my arse.
I'm perfectly fine investing another 150m into the squad as long as they are younger, talented players that can continue to build on the foundation we've set so far. Worst case scenario, Arteta's replacement will have a large group of prospects to build around. To me, investing in the squad is about preserving and improving the quality of the club, not just Arteta's project.

It's obviously more nuanced than you're framing it. Many of the signings last summer were good investments. Tomiyasu, Ramsdale, and Odegaard will be starters for the next few years. White, when healthy, is a very good defender although I think everyone can admit 50m was an overpay. Lokonga and Tavares aren't ready yet, clearly, but they've both shown flashes of potential that could indicate the best is yet to come.
It's clear the players that aren't showing up are the ones with one foot out the door already. Arsenal finished the Newcastle game with Lacazette, Elneny, Nketiah, Pepe, and Cedric on the pitch, all of whom are unlikely to be here next season. That's unacceptable in a must win game IMO and that blame largely falls on the club for not strengthening in January.
If that 150m is used for quality depth and a star striker, it will be easier to move on from Arteta and find a chef that can make a meal from these ingredients.
