Feels likey they've already written the season off. A midfielder at the start of January could have really kept our season on track.

It doesn’t look like anyone is moving in this window.

At the end of the season, his fanboys will have their excuses ready.

That’s a new one. Well done on the originality.

Thank you. Truly a compliment coming from the man that gave us "We're Top 4 if you count our results from Boxing Day 2020"

Correction - 'top 4 form' - different to stating we're in the top 4...but yes - our form since Boxing Day 2020 is good.

Tell us more about Arteta's subconscious... it's fascinating stuff.

Fair comment. I guess they are thinking longer term rather than trying for quick fixes. A league or CL in five years time would be better than a league cup now.

He's been in the job for over 2 years. How much longer is long term?

No improvement in those 2 years is damning

We have improved from 12th to now sitting 6th.
The job was always going to be up to 5 years to get us back, it's just some fans didn't understand that.

6th with no euro football isn't that impressive, look what Leicester did in a similar situation

6th is the bare minimum to continue to show progress.
No champagne corks should be popping if we get 6th, but it will keep things moving in the right direction.

I'd say the improvements in the summer were massive. Two signings and we could really have a top starting XI.

???
Martinelli/ESR---Odegaard---Saka
???---Partey
Tierney-Gabriel-White-Tomiyasu
Ramsdale

Then we just need to sort the squad players and we've already been linked to a goalkeeper and some back up right backs.

If you can't see the progress from last season to this then it is because you don't want to!

We've been 2 signings away for years

Summer window didn't improve our biggest weakness and as expected it's come back to haunt us.

It's a topsy turvy league this season with games in hands etc. That's why when we were "fourth" I didn't get all excited cos this was always coming.

With no Europe, top 4 is the minimum we should get especially as we spent the most as well.

Progress is measured by the league table and silverware.

By that measure, we've largely stagnated. FA Cup got us into Europe. Now, the best we have is a fading shot at 4th.

By other measures, e.g. financial, we've gone wayy backwards. A £200k pw CM who is worse than Xhaka. A £350k pw striker who won us the cup is exiled , while minutes are given to 2 strikers who are leaving in the summer.

Considering the war chest he's been granted, the results are glaringly average.

next time someone uses Leicester as a comparison please shut the forum down for the day.

Leicester was a miracle, a fluke whatever you want to call it. Nobody has done it since with or without Europe, nobody did it for long time before with or without Europe and I bet it'll be a long time before it happens again.

Everything worked out well for them that season, congrats but having (or not having) European football isn't an instant 3-4 place difference.

CBA to argue this same stuff over and over tbh but half of this could easily be argued the other way.

Took over when we were in 10th, took us to the lofty 8th
Won fa cup in his first season of management, beating two top teams on the way. Kept us in Europe an extra season by doing so.
Won comm shield beating the other top team a few weeks later.
Partey worse than Xhaka? Subjective but I think you'd find it hard to get many on that bandwagon.
Exiled a problem player, is that bad? The wages are bad for the quality he brings, I agree.
Maximising the use of 2 Arsenal resources before they are let go for superior players in the summer, good management that.

Pretty easy to make it sound how you want :sneaky2:

End of the day we've been in a downward spiral for years, this is the first season in a while where it feels like there's some genuine progress and attempt to get this club going upwards again. A lot has been spent, squad is young and hungry (maybe Rashford can feed them) and we have a genuine shot at 4th. FA Cup was disappointing but otherwise we're in decent shape right now, a few lucky wins for Spurs doesn't change that.

Beat Burnley Sunday and get back into top 4 battle mode.
