I think the other teams in the league are realising just how good Tomiyasu is and how much stability he brings to our right side - which has been a major point of weakness in the past that teams have exposed. White is very good with the ball at his feet, but is still learning when it comes to his positioning and Tomiyasu is helping him a lot.

Over the last couple of games Tomiyasu has definitely been targeted - 1 clear red card challenge on him unpunished (face stamp) and then the potential ankle breaker against Leeds.
He'll definitely be tested further, but the signs are he can handle himself well.

I said this before but I don't think it should be underestimated how much better our right side is now with Tomi.

In having seen some stellar performances from him playing for Real Betis, I was unashamedly a strong advocate for recruiting Emerson Royal as our right back solution.

Notice of him actually signing down the road after indications were that he was on his way to the bright side of the divide, before being lured away by Levy's mythical stories of success, triumph and trophies (and failing to spot the marksman on the roof and Harry Kane tethered to a goal post wearing a Hannibal Lecter restraint mask and mouthing 'Get Out!'), was not best received at the time.

However and with irony front and center, to then recruit the full-back Spurs already had in their shopping trolley before putting him back on the shelf after taking the opportunity to gazump us, was a move normally the reserve of a chess grand master. Checkmate.

If it was all just coincidence and a lucky accident then fair enough, but if strategy and cunning had any part to it, then nuff respect for Arteta's Tomiyasu Two-Step.

Was absolutely immense against City. A very astute signing and a difference maker on the pitch.

Tomiyasu's centre of gravity is impeccable for a 6'2'' player, which is very rare to see. He's so low to the ground when defending one-on-ones, which helps him maintain his balance.

Gotta be careful with statements like this, but I can't help but feel his style is a bit reminiscent of a certain former Italian defender who also happened to be 6'2''. :hiding:

on Tomiyasu’s absence, and how serious his injury is…

Well, Tomiyasu had an injury and we didn’t have anybody to play in that position against Liverpool. He really wanted to push, he tried and he played the 90 minutes, and he felt it again. So he will be out for a couple of weeks.

Exactly the type of stupid thing Wenger would do rushing a player back, it’s never worth it unless if it’s a cup final

Yet another data point on why the LC is useless and should only be used for backups and youth prospects.

Unfortunately it’ could be more than two weeks out for Tomi.
Arteta has said ‘a few weeks’ according to the Arsenal.com

We need him. Still the break will aid with his recovery and getting him back into matches.

If Tommy isn't going to be available for the Wolves game which is looking more and more likely to be the case, I'd be more inclined to have Tavares deputise for him than Cedric as things stand, as switching flanks isn't an issue for him as well as being mindful of his earlier effectiveness as part of our resurgent defensive unit.

Unfortunately for Cedric, he appears to have been struck down by the same syndrome that befell Kolasinac, who undoubtedly began his Arsenal career in beast mode which led to suggestions that he could indeed become the solution to our need of a destructive defensive midfielder if tried in the role.

Last season, up until Cedric got switched to the left in filling in for Tierney, he'd been enjoying that little purple patch of form at right back which duly got many of the fan base to now be on side with him along with his wife, but since then has pretty much seen his good form shrivel up and drop off like a lepers dick.
