Not going to be our player so what does it matter, he’s probably leaving for a pittance at the end of this season.

Game's about to kick off. Both players are in Marseille's starting XI.

Saliba plays as the right-sided CB in a back three.

Guendouzi plays on the right-side of a flat midfield three, though his positioning is significantly more advanced than Marseille's other two midfield players.

2-0 Montpellier.

Laborde scores a screamer. (Looked like his 'attempt' was intended as a cross, though.)

Left centre-back Luan Peres is having disastrous debut so far.

He couldn't even hack it at Club Brugge and Marseille figured he'd be a valuable first-time addition?

Probably does tell you a thing or two about the state that Ligue 1 clubs are finding themselves in.

Saliba made a nice overlapping run on the right hand channel and set up Benedetto but he was caught on his heels.

As I type this, Payet makes it 3-2 for Marseille.

Guendouzi had a chance to play in his teammate who was making a run down the channel. Instead, he got caught dwelling and decided to throw himself on top of the ball in order to try and win a free kick. (The referee wasn't having any of it.) A cynical habit of Guendouzi's and not one he's only recently developed.

Thankfully Saliba showed good recovery pace to deal with the situation -

There was another instance earlier in the first half where he overhit a simple pass and a counter attacking opportunity went begging. (Sampaoli was going berzerk on the touchline.) As usual, Douzi's work ethic was great, but his decision-making and awareness left a lot to be desired.

As for Saliba, he's had a convincing debut. Had one or two dodgy moments earlier in the half. One time he put the keeper under pressure and the other time he got dribbled a bit too easily. No major mistakes and he went from strength to strength as the game progressed. Without a doubt one of Marseille's standout performers.
