1980s was different. There wasn't the instant pressure for success then and hardly any money in the game. The fact he managed Millwall before wasn't an issue, as it would be today.

Selley was a youth product, as was Hillier (who was pretty decent in the 1991 title team but dropped off). Most of Graham's bad buys were when the PL started. He re-signed Keown but Keown was crap until Rioch and then Wenger came. Helder was meh but got the assist for Bergkamp's first goal.

No, because we did.
It makes it clear that the striker position was not the issue over those two seasons.
The only reason it was this year is down to an injury crisis.

In the words of John McEnroe, you cannot be serious Jay!

2 consecutive seasons we break our goal scoring record and in 2 consecutive seasons we won f**k all !! That absolutely tells you that scoring record goals is irrelevant. The last time we won something was when we had a reliable goal scorer, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

If we want to win something we need a reliable goal scorer.

And, the elephant that's in the room, if we scored record goals in consecutive seasons AND didnt have an injury crisis to deal with how can you explain us not winning anything at all? Surely the stars are aligned if we score record goals and don't have any injury crisis.

Tells me that there's a psychological blockage that's stopping us from winning big things. It is the ' Choking ' syndrome.
Nothing to do with quality or ability to score at all. Like it took PSG almost two decades to win the CL in spite of having arguably the best teams in Europe. They hired almost all iconic players in Europe for past two decades but still couldn't win.
Another team in World Cricket also suffers from similar trauma called South Africa.
Then there are Tennis greats who couldn't conquer a particular surface, like Borg never won the US, Lendl never won the Wimbledon or Sampras and McEnroe never could master the Clay.

You are right that it's a mental issue. And that falls on the manager to correct.

Chelsea managed to do it under Tuchel with a squad of purebred donkeys in attack: Giroud, Havertz, Mount and Werner. What's the difference? Tuchel reached the CL final with PSG the year before, and had won silverware with Dortmund. He knew what it takes, and where teams fall short before.

I'll say it again: we are not going to reach a CL final or win the PL before we win smaller trophies first. Brass tacks, xG and "record goals scored" stats are meaningless outside of journo puff pieces, videogame statistics and fantasy football spreadsheets.

Guy's a poser and a loser. He was whining years ago but how he "hates football and fell out of love with it" now he's a big top Spurs. and Arwsenal gave him his career. Arteta won a trophy his club hasn't won in many years.

indeed.
Of course it's highly unlikely he ever had any guarantees.
Any player that asks for a guarantee to start games should be shown the door.
Thanks for your service and transfer listed.

That’s why Arteta hasn’t won anything. Doesn’t know how the game is played.

I will drop him a note to let him know that his FA Cup win doesn't count and to get in contact with you to learn about the game.

Arteta's on thin ice.

He's being backed. He's been given time.

Nothing less than victory counts.

Even if it's the league cup, it doesn't matter. He has to WIN.

The league cup on its own wont mean anything to me. Its only worth winning if we're winning other stuff

The goal is to win PL/ CL. Always.
Others are icing on the cake.
Will bury the past and start with a clean slate again.
New season, new players, and hope to win Big.
