That was the 1989/90 title winning season, they had Careca and Alemao and a very young Gianfranco Zola.

But the first title was with a bunch of nobodies by and large.

Careca was nothing special at all, he was part of that poor 1990 Brazil team as well, they got much better once they got Romario and Bebeto and of course later Ronaldo.

Depends on the individual 12-13 United team wouldn’t have even challenged without RVP. Then theirs 13-14 Liverpool another average side Suarez was the only real world class player, surrounded by average players and they nearly achieved it.

Mate, they still had Rooney.
I think it's pretty rare that a single player is the main reason a team wins anything.
I am thinking Maradona and maybe no one else.

Nobody said a single player wins you anything. The point we are discussing is that at 50 mil you bring in a finished player that plugs a hole in your system. Not a developing player who is third choice LB and fourth choice Cb. Jeez it’s like explaining things to a toddler.

Its exactly what you said bro, 3rd season running we bring in a player that won't win us the league - you said.

HH - stupidity is contagious. This is what happens when you hang out with fanboys. My point, since I have to explain it, is that you spend 50 mil to bring in the missing piece. He’s not the missing piece. The missing piece for us is a striker or a creative midfielder not a backup LB or CB. Got it?

Why do you not think he is the missing piece? Our back line has gotten even stronger and the left side of the pitch looks far less disjointed, plus Martinelli has been given a new lease of life

Language like 'missing piece' is so nebulous.
We were 2pts away from winning the league - it's not a missing piece that is needed. We can win the league with what we have. Our squad is still evolving and maturing and will continue to get better.
There is no magic bullet or missing piece in the form of a player that fans seem to obsess over.
Football management is much harder in real life, I would suggest, than it is on a computer or fantasy football form.
If only it were so easy to just buy a 'missing piece'.

If your center forwards collectively scored less than 20 goals in the season, the missing piece is a center forward.

If your team breaks club goal scoring records, I would say that is more important by orders of magnitude against a fan looking for a hero.

We broke goal scoring records.
We broke defensive records.
We have the greatest manager that ever lived.
But we won nothing.

Just the goal scoring record.
Not the goals conceded record.
We have a great manager , not the greatest who ever lived

Stop crying , we are doing well.

So alongside Timber and Tomiyasu we have three quality defenders all capable of playing across the back line, love to see it

He looked a little shaky at times tonight defensively but he's a real asset going forward.
Actually prefer him at LB to RB.
Very good player overall and you are right that he can play all across the back line.

Tommie needs to go he is made of glass it's a shame.
We also have Tierney who is back in training also I know made of glass,
Arteta has ability for two more players once they have been shipped and both are in the window

I agree, shame but he needs to be gone, he is unreliable.
