Exactly, it gets to a point when you look at the numbers and say, he knows how to score, get him in a good team and see how he does

He's scored goals at lower levels. Less risk if we got Toney. There's a difference between the EFL and Portugal, and now we assume he'd come to one of the world's biggest clubs in the world's best league and bang. No guarantee he'd make the step up, but we'll see.

Toney scored 4 goals last year.
The only time he ever got to 20 is when he scored 7 penalties.
That is 1 year where he has had good numbers overall.
His PL goal rate is similar to Nketiahs, even including his penalties.
A goal every 203 minutes vs Nketiah's 215 minutes.
Open play goals and Nketiah's goal rate is far superior.

All goals
Toney 36 in 7322 minutes - goals every 203 minutes
Nketiah 19 goals in 4096 minutes - goal every 215 minutes

Open play goals
Toney 22 in 7322 minutes - goal every 333 minutes
Nketiah 19 in 4096 minutes - goal every 215 minutes.

Toney was also the worst finisher in the Premier League last year.

If the Merino rumours are true, it will be interesting to see how he does in his second Premier league attempt. He failed at Newcastle, but was only in his early 20's then.

Toney had one bad half-season, so now he's shit. lol. ignoring why he got banned and taking time to get back into the groove again.
Gyokeres has no prior experience at the top level. it's foolish to expect him to be it. but we'll see.

His scoring record is very average - to be kind.
His only use really is winning headers.
he has nothing else about him.

The 'get him even if it cost £100m' was just an absurdity.

The only reason he has scored more than Nketiah in nearly double the premier league minutes is because he is a penalty taker

Toney is ok, Watkins would be a lot better though

Ye and Mbappe would be better than Watkins.

I thought we were a top team that any top player would want to join?

Instead we've got Jesus and Kai up top that can't score 20 league goals combined.

Who would you rather have, red or blue?

Red has the better numbers by a landslide. It's not even close.

Red outshines blue in:

    1) Chance conversion
    • Goals per shot
    • Non-penalty goals
    • Non-penalty expected goals per shot

    2) Chance creation/facilitating
    • Goal-creating actions
    • Shot-creating actions
    • Touches in attacking third
    • % of aerial duels won

Red is closer to what you'd associate with a reasonably creative, unselfish, yet prolific forward who knows when to shoot and when to pass. Blue on the other hand, looks more like your average, high shot volume type of attacker who isn't necessarily prolific.

    *Assuming:
    • Sample size is large and similar for both players
    • They play for similar quality teams in similar quality leagues
If criteria above is not met (or at least approximated), results could be rather misleading.

Toney - a shit half-season coming back from suspension
Gyokeres - scored goals but at lower levels

Even in the Euros, Toney looked sharp and he didn't get much game time. England obviously did better than Sweden.

Toney for me is the option. He knows the league, knows London, and i'd rather take six months of poor form coming back from an unprecedented gambling ban, over hoping a striker who scored goals in the Championship and Portugal will be elite.
