It's not about "who is at the helm" they can't do much about board policy from a decade ago ... the problems started when the Wenger/Gazidis axis decided that contracts were going to become short-term with high salaries and low transfer values ... they were so confident that this was 'the future' that a high salary concept was introduced at Arsenal ... but they were wrong.
As more and more money poured into football high bonuses and LONG contracts became the only way to ensure clubs got full transfer value for their players - letting players drop below two years on their contracts was the kiss of death for transfers - as was having players on massive basic salaries - sadly the Wenger/Gazidis axis had sent us hurtling down this route ... short contracts and massive basic salaries.
Despite the board finally getting it "we will no longer allow players to drop below two years" actions speak louder than words, they have not done as they promised - of the so called big clubs we have by far the most starting players at two years or less - Odegaard (gone) Ceballos (gone) Luiz (gone) - Laca, Nketiah, Chambers, Elneny all entering their final year - Auba, Bellerin, Xhaka, ESR, Willock, Willian, Nelson all entering the last two years .... that's 14 players.
If we were doing a proper job all these players would either be sold now or have their contracts renewed - it's been the same issue every summer since the axis of doom screwed our contract policy - the longer we let it go the lower we will drop.
We are at the last chance saloon - if we don't fix it this summer we are truly fecked - that's if we aren't fecked already.
